I was thinking this same thing the other night! I got into a bit of a disagreement with my man, nothing major and we were fine the next morning. But I thought about it all night. It is very frustrating to be aware of it, and still not be able to control it. I don't nag, or try to control what he does, controlling your words are easy when you know what happens if you don't. Thoughts are a whole different beast.

Pick your battles. Don't argue for the sake of being right. Ask yourself, "is this really worth getting upset about?" Usually it's not.

Learn how to let go.Be carefree and sweet. Don't be over sensitive and nagging. You'll be a lot happier in the long run.

Usually a lurker but really felt the need to contribute to this, because I have the same problem. Something that helps me soften the hamstering constantly is daily meditation. It makes you more conscious about your actions and thoughts. The hamstering still occures too much for my feeling, but now I'm far more conscious about it and stop for a minute to reflect on myself and stop me. Whenever the thoughts start spinning around I write down some great things about my man and that will usually stop the bad thoughts.

I am not sure if it will ever be possible to stop the hamstering for good but I really hope so.

I work in a law firm and have many associate attorney duties, so it's basically my job to hamster and manipulate words to make our client's position look good. It is so hard to turn off when I leave the office. My SO isn't familiar with RP theory, but I have asked him to call me out if I start "lawyering" and it has really helped me be more conscious of it. My advice is that anytime you're upset and you feel like you're saying the same thing over again and spinning your wheels (no pun intended)/talking in circles, pause and try to identify what emotion you're feeling and what the INTERNAL source of that feeling is.

It's incredibly easy not to hamster. Just admit two things:

You aren't right about everything.
You are responsible for things.

I guess it's virtually impossible for women, since society will never treat you like these things are true; but if you want to personally avoid hamstering, all you have to do is accept those two things.

I usually try to freeze my thought process and analyze it. "Why am I feeling like this? What could be the source? Is it fair to react like this? Is it worth getting upset over? If I think my feelings are justified, how can I express them in a constructive manner?"

I let go of worry mostly and just stop trying to control him. It was very hard in the past but its become easier for me.

Isn't it in our nature to hamster? AWALT, all women are hamsters, all women are sluts....

To be fair, I'm not hamsteringand I'm not trying to stir the pot, I'm merely making a solidifying premise of what has been deemed to be women's nature. If all women are like that, then we're all hamsters.
