Something similar often happens at the bar i work at. Woman orders drinks, holds money out to pay, only for a white knight to push his money in front of hers for me to accept. I always take the money from whoever ordered the round, irrespective of gender.

The Hero we need, but don't deserve

[–]PopsicleIncorporated 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This works especially well considering we're talking about White Knights, haha.

[+]opticscythe -78 points-77 points-76 points 9 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

So not only cock blocking, but charging someone who may have appreciated a free drink. Impressive.

[–]LieutSerge 200 points201 points202 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

found the white knight

[+]opticscythe -20 points-19 points-18 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Yes trying to initiate a conversation without some corny icebreaker line. So white Knight, much buzz word

[–]Someone9339 75 points76 points77 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

If you put women on pedestal you force them to look down on you

[+]opticscythe -13 points-12 points-11 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

How is offering to buy someone a drink (guy or girl) to initiate a conversation putting someone on a pedestal?

[–]kaoslab 30 points31 points32 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because there are better ways to start any type of relationship than offering free shit. You're a man it's in you to act as the provider (believe me society has it beat into us). Say hello, say something witty, be charming....don't try to buy your in....

[–]CoffeeMetalandBone 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because you literally know nothing about them and are giving them fun juice for free. Short of literally begging for attention, you could not do anything more beta

[–]opticscythe 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've been to bars around the world and never had anyone complain. What most people don't realise on this thread it seems, is that buying somebody a drink (guy or girl) doesn't mean you trying to start a romantic relationship. It's just a friendly way to initiate a conversation. I'm straight and happily married but I wouldn't turn down a free drink. People watch to much tv. Plus the fact that you called me a "beta" makes me think you aren't even old enough to be in a bar.

[–]CoffeeMetalandBone 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A friendly way to initiate a conversation is with a "hi". Buying a drink is the softcore version of buying someone you aren't that close with a gift. It's free but it's cringey. Makes more sense to swap rounds of drinks after conversation has already started. No pussy on a pedestal, just two people trading conversation and rounds of drinks.

Edit: just realized I'm being called juvenile by a guy with "scythe" in his username xD

[–]mitzibishi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also Optic maybe a call of duty reference. Its a call of duty team that people love to pretend they are in. Its pretty lame. And only 15 year olds think they are cool

[–]darokk 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It depends on the situation, but in most cases there are much better ways of initiating a conversation. Buying a drink for a total stranger is a pretty clear signal that you think they deserve it only based on their looks ( = putting them on a pedestal).

[–]Ximkai 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since when has anyone ever needed to spend money to have a fucking conversation with someone? They are chicks, not a fucking hotline.

[–]Kagger911 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If you're looking for love in a bar, you're doing it wrong. Nice try.

[–]opticscythe 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Im married but who said anything about love? Doesn't even have to be romantic at all or even a girl. Just a friendly gesture to start a conversation.

[–]Kagger911 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then stop trying to speak for all the other guys that actually do go to bars.

Nah been with my SO 7 years and never really was a pub fan. Overpriced drinks and asshole bartenders so your actually 100% wrong.

[–]HumanIncarnite 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

So you just have no clue what you're talking about, gotcha.

[–]opticscythe -5 points-4 points-3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'm saying any friendly, sociable person would accept that as a fine way to initiate a conversation no Metter the gender or intention. But then again you're just a pub rat what do you know about it.

[–]HumanIncarnite 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Ive been called worse by better.

Yeah, what would I know about social interactions in a pub, being as you put it, a pub rat. Do you have a scrap of logic at all rattling around in that empty head of yours?

[–]opticscythe -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You're opposition to free drinks is what shows lack of social ability. I may not go to pubs a lot but I've been to them in about 20 states, 3 countries in europe, Japan and Taiwan and I've never seen anyone be mad at a free drink. Maybe you just need to get out from the usual pubs you go to because they don't sound fun at all.

[–]HumanIncarnite 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You have missed everyones point.

No ones saying anything about being mad.

Add reading comprehension to the list of traits you need to acquire along with logic.

[–]opticscythe -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Maybe you don't put off a friendly vibe, maybe your ugly, maybe fat, maybe broke. Could be any or none. The one thing I know for sure we've had extremely different life experiences, and we should both live our lives accordingly.

[–]mitzibishi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why would anyone be mad at free shit. Its a pretty cheesy opener and sets you up for a schmuck.

[–]yaboywiththeballs 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You gotta ask someone before you buy them a drink.

[–]RithyH 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]tephenson195 points 9 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Happens in restaurants, too. The good ol' "alligator arms".

[–]Genghis_Frog 50 points51 points52 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

What I don't get about that commercial (the one that I'm assuming you're referring to, with the alligator pretending to want to pay) is why didn't somebody else at the table just hand him the check? You want to pay, but can't reach the check? Allow me to assist you.

[–]Achack 29 points30 points31 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's a joke. They use other excuses like they just made a big payment or they left their (blank) card at home. The joke comes from their apparent lack of ability to reach into their pockets to get their money whenever it comes time to pay.

Random related joke:

I know someone that people make the alligator arms joke about and one day I was helping put money together to take a co worker out and alligator arms through some money in. I told another co worker about it and he said the money must've been in his shirt pocket.

Doesn't land so well when written out I guess but fuck it I'm leaving it.

[–]cking921 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The joke is that alligators have short arms right? If so then yeah I can see that being pretty funny.

[–]ghostofq 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I told another co worker about it and he said the money must've been in his shirt pocket.

Haha, that's a great way to land the joke :)

[–]suss2it 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How often do two people go to the door trying to pay? Usually by the time the pizza actually arrives people have already figured out who's paying.

[–]Eternasphere 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People (especially guests) like to compete over who pays to look good. I like to pick the woman.

[–]Eternasphere 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Also you'd be surprised how few people are ready for me. Usually scrambling to find their purse/wallet/card and then a guest comes to carry the pizza in and says "Oh I'll get this one because I owe you a favour".

[–]mitzibishi146 points 9 years ago [recovered] (31 children) | Copy Link

Ive never known the girl to be that forward with the card/money. They usually pretend to attempt to get it out hoping that you will say no i'll get it like all the other times men did before that.

When you stay silent they seem shocked. Each move they make with their hand into their purse seems hesitant waiting for you to halt it.

[–]5p33di3 154 points155 points156 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like you need to meet better women. SO and I split outings 50/50. If we get fast food, one will buy that one and the next one. If we eat at a sit down restaurant we'll alternate.

Not all women are stingy or greedy.

[–]DrChubntuck 62 points63 points64 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. I couldn't be more grateful for my SO. She's a kickass girl that doesn't use pussy pass ever. She works hard as fuck as well and is polite. How she is still with me is beyond me.

I'm the bread winner, so I always catch the bill with my girlfriend. But when I'm out with my parents I'm the slowest draw in the east.

[+]Hiruis -6 points-5 points-4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What does being the bread winner have to do with paying for dinner?

[–]megaman368 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My girlfriend makes less than me and has crippling debt. Why would I make her pay half? We have more of an old school relationship. I make sure I earn enough to cover the bills. She cooks and cleans. We both play to our strengths and it works for us.

[–]Hiruis 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I understand not making her pay half for bills. Me and my girlfriend split it 33/67 I make way more than her. But how can someone have so little money they can never pay for a meal on a date?

[–]megaman368 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

After expenses she has roughly $80 a month for groceries and disposable income. The tuition she was charged to become a pastry chef should be criminal. 32k for 3 semesters. Bakers, even of her caliber, make crap pay.

Paying for everything bothers me sometimes. But saving and managing money is my mutant superpower. Within reason I can always catch the bill.

The fact that she's a phenomenal baker helps too. Her Apple bourbon pie is insane.

[–]Hiruis 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That should be criminal, kudos to you for sticking through it. I know it bother me picking up the majority in my relationship sometimes. But what works in every relationship works different I guess.

Keep strong brother, she'll pull through in the end.

[–]suss2it 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being the bread winner obviously means you have more disposable income to pay for dinners.

[–]PureGold07 41 points42 points43 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

This actually reminds me of something. I do remember it about a few weeks ago, we were having a conversation about girls. I said that it is okay for a guy to pay for a meal, but that the women should at least pay as well and that a guy shouldn't have to pay all the time.

The females basically told me that a guy paying means you're a gentleman and you should always pay or you no one date you. Well! I have no problem fucking paying for a meal, but why every single time? If we're going out to eat, why the hell should I treat you all the time? Then they proceeded to explain this is why I'm single and don't know how to treat girls smh

Females think they are special or entitled to shit

/endrant Still pisses me off actually

[–]ghostofq 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The females basically told me that a guy paying means you're a gentleman and you should always pay or you no one date you.

That's the way it goes if you want a good virgin wife who knows her place is in the kitchen and will always do what you tell her to do because you're the man of the house.

Oh, what, she's a modern independent woman who "doesn't need no man" and won't supplicate to you and is only traditional when it comes to men paying and carrying heavy things? You've found a princess....

Females think they are special or entitled to shit

The ones you're hanging around with, yeah. My partner earns more than me and we've never argued about whose turn it is to pay. I have to take heavy bags off her, she doesn't expect me to do all the work. I don't put up with that shit, I'm only gentleman when it's something I'm appreciated for, not when it's expected.

/endrant Still pisses me off actually

Why? If you don't settle for this shit you'll find a girl who treats you like an equal, but it's a safe bet that unless these girls are at least a 9/10 they're never going to find their prince charming.

I'm dating someone who's making more than me, but she expects the man to pay always. She also insists on walking on the "correct side" of the sidewalk when we do walk together, as well.

I'm trying to get her to pay for stuff, but she's having issues with it. I'm not sure how to do it, but I'm starting to think something needs to be done.

[–]ghostofq -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My troll sensors are going haywire.

She also insists on walking on the "correct side" of the sidewalk when we do walk together, as well.

I actually wouldn't have a problem with this. If we get attacked while walking together, I want my partner to do the running while I do the fighting. Bodyguard services come as part of what I voluntarily include in my relationship package deal as well as cooking 5+ days a week and taking the donkey's share of the carrying load. I don't mind which side I walk on, I'm ok with her picking the side she likes.

Refusing to pay though... I'm sure this pattern was obvious by the second or third date right? How many times will you pay in a row before it's fair to accuse you of pretending to be someone you're not to try to make her like you? She's not wrong for wanting to be paid for, if it's a rigid requirement for her she needs a man with that in his relationship package deal. It sure as shit isn't me, but if it's not you either then there's no way to fix it.

You need to figure out what your relationship rules are, changing them after patterns are already established is bad practice.

[–]TedTheAtheistAccused alley rapist "I leave no DNA!" 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My troll sensors are going haywire.

Um, I don't troll. Ever.

She's not wrong for wanting to be paid for,

It's a form of entitlement that actually JUST got addressed. I let her know this evening that I need to feel respected, so she's going to start doing 50/50.

Saying it's "not wrong", well, that depends on who you ask. If you ask someone who is about equality, then yea, they will probably say that's wrong.

if it's a rigid requirement for her she needs a man with that in his relationship package deal.

Any guy who pays completely for a woman has one messed up "package deal", imo. He's easily taken advantage of, from my perspective.

It sure as shit isn't me, but if it's not you either then there's no way to fix it.

Well, after I laid down the law this evening, she got on board. I needed to explain it reasonably, and she finally drank the Koolaid. Women don't like to hear the words "entitled" or anything.. but when you get them to stop riding their emotions for a bit, you'd be surprised what they will agree to.

You need to figure out what your relationship rules are, changing them after patterns are already established is bad practice.

It's only been 2-3 months. I think I'm doing well changing them up now. :)

Murder is "wrong". Rape is "wrong". Financial agreements between people in a relationship can't be similarly ruled "wrong", surely? One person quitting work to look after kids can be for the good of the family, and if both people are in agreement on it I'd say it's pretty clearly "not wrong" for the stay at home parent to be supported financially by the working parent. That's just one example. I just know it's not my job to make judgements on people's relative circumstances, agreements and free choices. What matters to me is consent.

Any guy who pays completely for a woman has one messed up "package deal", imo.

One of my friends is a farmer, he busts his arse all day while his wife stays at home. She looks after the kids, cooks, cleans, cares for him, helps out at the kid's school and in the community. Great family. She has never earned a cent in her life. Who are you to say he has a messed up package deal?

when you get them to stop riding their emotions for a bit, you'd be surprised what they will agree to.

I think it's mostly related to who has "hand" in the relationship. But yes absolutely, staying on point and refusing to supplicate goes a long way, and never ever ever give in to theatrics or threats.

It's only been 2-3 months. I think I'm doing well changing them up now. :)

I'm certainly happy for you that you've been able to pull it off. What I'm trying to say is that re-defining the status quo in a relationship can be a rocky road. Once you know what you want, it's in your interest to model that behaviour from the start of the relationship.

Good points, sir. Thank you. This woman adores me and I'm not like all the other guys who buy her stuff and suck up to her. I actually have the DGAF attitude, and she hungers for it.

This morning my girlfriend and I got food at the airport. When they rang me up, she got mad at me for not offering to buy her food for her. So I paid for her food. She continued to stay mad at me out of principle, so I told her if Im going to get attitude either way, Im going to save my money in the process. fuck it. edit: sounds like these people replying dont know how to be in a relationship lol

You're a pushover. If someone is mad at me for no good reason I'll state my case and then leave. I won't stick around and have my day ruined.

Edit: superkickpalooza is deleting his posts (coward), so I'm editing to add what I'm replying to before it goes too. The ones already deleted below I've also edited to quote as best I could from memory, indicated by rah rahs.

[–]ghostofq 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Haha yeah, the whole point is to not "have my day ruined". I want to enjoy my favourite band, and if you're ruining it for me I'm going to get away from you so I can enjoy it.

The hard part is figuring out when you actually deserve it. Sometimes you need to apologise and eat some humble pie. You can't take the high road like this when you're actually guilty.

Funny you're making this about her despite my criticism being entirely about you. If I'm suggesting anyone needs training, it's YOU.

Or, did you expect to get sympathy when you complained about your girlfriend behaving like a spoiled princess? Do you not know where you are? This subreddit doesn't congratulate people for handing out pussypasses.

Rah rah you're a cunt rah rah I clicked your post history rah rah

I just clicked yours, scrolled down half way, and here's the first post of yours I read....

"I bust from anal every time. If i go a while and my gf already came and/or starts getting sore, i get the butt. Ive never lasted longer than 10 minutes from anal."

Very highbrow mate. You're really hitting the hard issues. And good on you for admitting how you cum from getting it in the butt, not everyone would be so... wide open. Figuratively of course.

Edit: And you've just gone and downvoted every single post in my history. Pathetic as well as a coward. Go ahead and bookmark my profile so you can keep thinking about me every day, that'll teach me.

Edit2: At the rate you're currently deleting your post history you're not going to have any left. Worried your girlfriend will see the shit you've been talking mate?

[–]flamingguts 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you guys usually have one of you pay? Either my girlfriend or I always just pay for everything, and figure it out later, or switch off whose turn it is. It's annoying to both pay at a restaurant, or whatever else.

Otherwise, why is she your girlfriend? She sounds cunty, and you sound like you don't know how to handle a disagreement.

No, you don't know how to be in a relationship.

You don't go paying for shit just because some chick whines like a little bitch. You need to be an alpha male and not some weak beta guy. Don't let people walk over you.

For me it doesn't matter if the woman just accept because it's the men role like men are making more money because they deserve it. What I don't like is a woman pretending to want equality and dodging to pay. I am married but I use to pay for my wife just because I wanted us to have the best and I earn 4 times more money than her.

Unless someone can tell me the context, how is it a bluff, she fully extends until he offers, then she accepts the offer...

[–]MattLib 44 points45 points46 points 9 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link

Girls often pretend to pay to be polite knowing the boy will offer to pay. Cashier calls her bluff and makes her pay

[+]lxaex1143 -45 points-44 points-43 points 9 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

And you know that is occurring here how? I'd be pissed if I took a girl on a date, she accepted my offer to pay, but the waiter didn't allow me to pay for her. How is her accepting an offer an attempted pussy pass?

[–]Bucklar 25 points26 points27 points 9 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

And you know that is occurring here how?

We know that's what is occurring here because it's a scripted and acted scenario.

Literally three lines above you. How is it white knighty to pay for a girl?

[–]Bucklar 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

unless someone can tell me the context

a scripted and acted scenario

I saw, I answered. That's the context. It is a scripted scenario intended to humorously joke about this not uncommon situation. Other people have provided this context as well. You just don't seem to accept that context.

That reply didn't help with the image thing.

[–]lxaex1143 -5 points-4 points-3 points 9 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I'm not concerned with your opinion on my "image." I am concerned that people seem to implying a woman allowing a man to pay for her is a bad thing.

[–]Bucklar 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Nobody is implying that at all, not even the worst offenders here, and least of all me. It's strange that that's how you've interpreted this situation, and voiced it as a rebuttal to me no less.

[–]lxaex1143 -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

So then let me ask you, is it a bad thing for a woman to accept a man's offer to pay for her?

Nope.

[–]IN547148L3 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Notice how it was actually hard to get the card from her? She had no intention of paying.

And why don't you let the girl who is offering to actually pay? Maybe she's pissed off you push your card in front of hers.

[–]lxaex1143 -4 points-3 points-2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She only pulled the card back after the man offered. The offer was made, she pulled her card away as an acceptance. Men buy women drinks all the time at bars to start a conversation, maybe this was a similar situation.

[–]pancakesimone 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]lxaex1143 -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

She only pulls back after he extended his card.

[–]PopeOrangeJulius 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Which she clearly expected him to do. She was counting on it. She expected to get a PASS on paying because she had a PUSSY. (Put those in caps so they couldn't possibly whizz past your head like everything else seems to.) Pick up on context and body language, dude. It's right there in front of your face.

[–]lxaex1143 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What are you basing that off of? What context or body language indicates that. She didn't look over to him until after he had extended his card.

[–]PopeOrangeJulius 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Those questions have already been answered, you just don't want to accept that they have. I'm not going I sit here and parrot everything that other people have already said, it's a waste of my time. For some reason, you seem to be completely unable to accept that you're wrong, despite all these people giving you answers to your questions. You're clearly too dense to bother continuing this conversation, so I won't. Have a nice life, maybe we can continue this discussion once you've gotten a few more birthdays under your belt.

[–]Lost_And_NotFound 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The gif clearly shows her starting to pull back and put the card away again. Did you even watch it?

[–]lxaex1143 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

She was putting the card away after the guy extended his card to the clerk; therefore, she was accepting his offer.

[–]ZeroOne_01 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As soon as she pulls the card out she is looking at him at the corner of her eye so he doesn't see her looking, to see if he's reaching for the card.

[–]lxaex1143 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, she looks after he pulls out his card.

[–]ZeroOne_01 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]lxaex1143 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would argue you are the one making the assertion that she is acting in bad faith and therefore you would have to prove it.

[–]lxaex1143 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She pulled her hand back after he offered his. Yeah, that's why i stated, unless someone can tell me context.

[–]I-Am-The-Patriarchy 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's more of a joke that the cashier snaps the card out of her hand like "fuc u bic boi u pay rye lao" instead of letting the guy pay.
