It is irrational and unethical. There are a bunch of organizations fighting for change. National Parents Organization , https://nationalparentsorganization.org/ , and a Kids right , https://www.facebook.com/pages/A-Kids-Right/264012466978880?ref=br_tf , are a few. However often the men who are the victims have been steamrolled and are working poor trying to make enough to stay out of jail, so there is not much money to fight with.

What can be done? A few suggestions for improvement:

Cut off federal dollars to the states for collecting child support. Repeal 42 USC 7-IV Part D Section 655. That, I think, is a big one.
Prohibit imprisonment for failure to pay CS, even willful nonpayment.
In fact, eliminate any non-financial punishment for non-payment. Do not, under any circumstances, permit the state to revoke licensces, garnish wages, sieze tax refunds, freeze bank accounts, or put liens on property for failure to pay.
Do not permit the states to assign mandated CS payments in excess of 5% of the NCPs net income, regardless of the number of children covered by the CS order. The 5% limit covers all costs, including health insurance payments.
Eliminate income imputation.
Do not permit states to require citizens to pay for family court sattelite industry services. If the state thinks that a man needs a psych eval, a parenting evaluation, or supervised visitation, the state covers the cost 100%, no exceptions.
Eliminate ex parte hearings regarding accusations of domestic violence or child abuse. Eliminate emergency orders of restraint. Or, at the very least, do not permit an emergency order of restraint to evict a man from his home.
Do not permit family court judges to order one party to cover the legal fees of another party, except in cases where fraud/perjury is ascertained to have occurred.

Of course, the best way to deal with it is to simply eliminate child support altogether. The idea that one parent owes the other one a living without the owing parent receiving anything in return should be outrageous to the sensibilities of people who ostensibly value freedom.

I have full custody of my son. I got laid off over a yr ago and my income went down more than half. After about 8 months I decided to ask for a child support mod hearing. My exwife was paying me 25 a wk. When we had our hearing they sent us into a room one at a time to verify our income and other details. They called me back in and said your child support went from 100 a month to 230 a month. Then the lady said your exwife is saying she doesnt agree with the amount. So we had to go before the judge. So they call me to the stand and the grilling started. I explained my situation. Got laid off, found out I qualified to have my schooling paid for for the next 2 yrs. I get to collect my unemployment up to 80 wks. So my income is 1000 a month. Im debt free. The judge treated me like I was a dead beat dad who owed 30k in back support. I explained to him I was debt free and have a chance to finish my degree without incurring thousands in debt. The lady representing the state asked me why I was doing this. I said "my child support was based on me making 700 a week now its 250 a week, she only pays 25 a week and doesnt even provide insurance or gets him when she's supposed to" The judge didnt like that answer. They called her up to the stand and she cried on cue and the judge ate it up. On paper my income is 1000 a month. Because my mom lives across the street and helps out by watching him while at school and the fact that my dad takes me and my son out to eat a couple times a week, he put my income down as 1300. He even tried to use the money the gov is paying for school as income. The lady representing the state they dont count that as income and he was pissed. He told my ex 5 times that he didnt have much discretion on the amount and acted like he was sorry he had to set her amount at 230 a month. Now she's suing me for full custody because my income is not "stable" Ive had full custody for 4 yrs and Im scared to death Ill lose him because of this judge.

TLDR: Lost job, ask for a raise in child support. Got it, but only after being treated like a deadbeat dad. Exwife who has 2 kids she pays child support on was treated like she was the victim.

Opt out don't have kids. If you end up in that situation run, expatriate advocate that others do the same.

If you know women that are living like that point it out and give them shit for it.

The simple answer is abolish family courts. No rules, no nothing. Itd force women not to be bitches, and to chose potential fathers more carefully. Sure, some fathers would run out on their obligations, but most wouldn't.

On average, custodial parents who receive child support in the U.S. get about $300. per month. The average non-custodial father pays less for his child support than he does for his car payment. Can you live on $75. a week? Who is making up the difference for the children to have food, shelter, utilities, clothing, etc? Right, the mothers and the tax payers! The problem is not that a very few high income fathers pay thousands per month, and an even tinier percentage do so due to fraud. The problem is that the vast majority of single fathers are doing a piss poor job of supporting their children.
