If they're going to be that childish, I'd say let them. If they're going to ostracize you from the family for not attending a celebration of something you have explicitly told them you disagree with, they are not worth it.

Again, they are specifically ask you to celebrate genital mutilation. Give them an ultimatum: until they treat your position with respect, even if they disagree, you will not forgive them.

You are not ruining your family, they are ruining it by not accepting your position as valid, by dismissing your concerns and then asking you to celebrate something that is explicitly opposed to your position.

That would be like the family of a gay person asking the gay family member to come to the celebration after the gay beatings, and telling them they'd never forgive them if they didn't come.

What ceremony are you going to? Is it possible it's just a naming ceremony in front of the congregation?

I'd am very curious and would be better informed if you let us know the details when you are done.

I'd also suggest you bring a gift along the lines of what I suggested earlier, $18 in a new baby card, that allows your sister and husband to understand you honor their choice of religion and celebrate your new nephew.

If you want to be a coward, just say work called, or fake illness or pretend something important came up.

They will obviously suspect you are full of shit, but they wont be able to prove it. That way you get to avoid confrontation/consequences whilst still maintaining your convictions.

You have 3 choices here:

Wuss out, attend, and validate their multilation.
Tell your sister and family to eat a big bag of dicks in what ever fashion you feel is appropriate.
Go to the event and read something that you have prepared that shares your true feelings.

Personally, I would have a couple shots and pick option three.

The Internet Tough Guys here all ready to kidnap the kid or make a brave stand against circumcision by annoying everyone are amusing.

A good reason perhaps while anti-circumcision and for that matter mens rights advocates often get nowhere aside from being called nuts.

If you were interested in success you would play the long game.

Support the family, celebrate the new baby, refuse to participate personally in the bris, and support politely and respectfully engaging these communities with education.

You would also only rarely compare a male circumcision with a female circumcision. The physical differences are just immense and cause long lasting suffering in women, from difficulties urinating, to removal of the entire clitoris, to removal and suturing of the labia, to inability to make love at all. And most of this done at the age of 10 or so in unsanitary conditions. In comparison there are millions/billions of men, circumcised, yes, without their consent, that have no problems urinating, and experience little problems with sex, and yes, almost certainly they suffer from less sensitivity and sexual pleasure, regardless, an ocean of sperm has been ejaculated successfully and pleasurably by men.

Anti circumcision advocates playing the long game would not act like dumbass feminists to annoy everyone, but educate people and move religions to much less harmful mechanisms: nicking of the clitoris, nicking of the foreskin.

But advocating some kid kidnap his nephew to stop this!

This is why the mens rights movement often gets nowhere, because even as we excoriate feminism for the extremism, we emulate it as often as we can.
