To be fair... this is the female equivalent.
They're two graphics that play on gender stereotypes. Both are damaging, but really... when they are put side-by-side and both obviously done in jest, I don't think it's a big deal.
I think it's important to mend the disproportionate and lopsided negative view of men in society. However, jokes are important to, which is exactly what this is. Most importantly, it's an equal joke with a female counterpoint.

That'd be fair...
...if they didn't add "PERFECTLY TRUE!!!!" in big capital letters afterwards.

Boo-fucking-hoo. It's a joke and not to be taken seriously.

Yeah, seriously. We're going to end up becoming as bad as feminists if this shit continues

This pic wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't so socially unacceptable to do the same thing for women. I personally find graphs like this funny. What I don't find funny is that people in general would be ready to crucify anyone who made a chart like this about women.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
if it wasn't so socially unacceptable to do the same thing for women.
I think you're suffering from selective reinforcement. You see what you want to see, and then write off what you don't want to see and don't include it in your 'general rule'. I think it's just as acceptable in society to make fun of women for liking shopping and shoes, as it is to make fun of men for liking sex and being slobs. You probably just don't see it that way because you find importance more in the times when people find it unacceptable than when people find it acceptable, making it feel like there are more times when it's unacceptable.
It's the same idea behind prayers. If your prayer comes true then god answered your prayer and counts toward evidence of his existence, if it didn't then it doesn't matter as much, it doesn't count, or it was his will.

Agree, this isn't a men's issue it's just a Jay-Leno-humor-level comic.
Besides, men generally being up for sex at the drop of a hat is one of the superpowers that makes our gender awesome.
Taking offense at this shows quite a low level of self esteem. I'm worried about the OP.

I came to the realization that stuff like this works in my favour so I abandoned the idea of defending it long ago.
If people constantly set the expectation that men act or think a certain way, I know am smart enough to rise above that and in doing so will exceed any expectations polluted by stereotypical views like this.
It also provides the perfect excuse to justify stereotypical behaviour as well. If someone catches you misbehaving, you can always play dumb. "what do you expect? I'm a man".
Win-Win in my opinion...

I think this is a really dangerous road to go down. Half the posts on this subreddit are about women doing exactly this. It's not cool when they do it, and it's not cool when we do it.
[–]yllw 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is anti-productive and I guess I should have explained that is not the "ideal" approach. I'm just too pragmatic about trying to change someone else's opinion. All I can do is try my own best and that's pretty much the only thing I can control. I can't control what height the bar is set to. If the judges want to set it really low, who am I to argue?

dude if you think that someone really thinks that, than you deserve to live in a life of perpetual anger. It's a joke, shitty joke, but a joke and "5eraph" even put up the female version of this. Lighten up.
Now the day this is used in a court to prove something about men... then I'll join you in your crusade. Until then, Why so serious?

It's terrible because it should not have persisted after the 90s.

Perhaps you need to do some research on humour and it's place in society.
[–]alphabetpal 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's people who are bothered by stuff like this that bothers me. It's a joke. It's funny. Inability to take a joke or recognize humor is my #1 complaint about feminism.
The real irony behind your thin skin is that the woman who put this together probably really loves men, and finds all this sort of endearing. It's the humorless harpies that want us all put in jail for glancing at their cleavage.

We don't get to take credit for the achievements of other men just because we have a penis.
[–]Manatee7474 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yet, if all these achievements were attained by males, then to say ‘these are the accomplishments of men’ is indeed correct. I don't believe he was taking personal credit for those discoveries.
As to its significance, well either women were so oppressed in the past that they accomplished little compared to men (The current theory) or there is something almost unique about that rare breed of men, a quality that drives them to explore and create, this coupled with astounding mental capacities.
Probably a combination of the two if you ask me.
I as a male it may not be right for me to take credit for the achievements of other men - but there is nothing wrong in taking pride! And why not? Are children not taught in school that ‘men’ were responsible for all the wars and disasters of history? I say if we are held responsible for men’s collective failures then we should damn well be credited with men’s successes!
EDIT: Cut and paste error - sorry.
[–]PlaySwitzerland -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There's nothing wrong with taking pride in being a male, but it's rather presumptuous to think, "... or there is something almost unique about that rare breed of men, a quality that drives them to explore and create, this coupled with astounding mental capacities." That just seems kinda ridiculous. Genitalia aside, anyone can do the aforementioned with discipline, drive, ambition and knowledge.

The answer is no, no they can't. That's the whole point - you can't make genius, only nurture it.
At genius levels and higher, men massively dominate - higher the IQ, the fewer the women, it's a physiological thing, therefore men will always massively dominate in the advancement of the sciences.
We are not all equal, the sooner people accept this the sooner we can put society back on track.

Ever see the mags at check outs? All the magazines for women have sex plastered all over them, "Sleep naked, feel sexier", "213 Ways to turn him on", "Finding HIS G-Spot". Men may think about sex all the time, but women OBSESS over it.

Finding HIS G-Spot
Ain't no way, ain't no how. I'm fucking terrified of getting a prolapsed rectum.
[–]misclanous 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
At least "Desire to Rape" isn't one of the sections.
So.. women don't know how to drive manual transmissions and are only good for ironing and "domestic skills"? This type of stuff harms women as much as it does men by further creating unequality. That type of stuff isn't something men or women should know, it's something people should know. Hell it's becoming commonplace for men to be the cooks in the relationship as much as it is for the women.

Vini. Vidi. Bitchy.
I hate sports, I can't drive, I have not turned the television on in two years, I have a large attention span, listening is one of my specialties. I hate making excuses, and I man up to my mistakes when I make them. Well I do like sex, I am not addicted to it.
I under if you put the men's and female's brain it's just a parody.. However, some women actually perceive men's thinking this way. And thinking the general men's persona as this way. But this is a tiny faction who are like this. And irrational at that.
The ironic part is, it is irrational and compulsive to make such broad stroke of generalization. They are essentially stereotyping themselves.
[–]modern_quill -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Wait just a damn minute! The ability to drive manual transmission cortex of my brain never developed! :(
