A person can die from a ruptured colon as a result of rape. I see anal rape as a more serious crime because there's more physical danger to the victim.

If we want to take on the extreme potentials, then kicking a guy in the balls is worse than rape, because it might cause testicular torsion, which aside from being more painful than child birth, causes organ death, which may lead to a lifetime of hormone replacement therapy. Rape never causes organ death, so rape isn't a big deal.

See how stupid that argument is? And it makes more sense than weighing pregnancy in rape, since there's no pill to fix torsion, no reviving a dead organ; and, rather than 20-22 weeks, surgical help is needed within hours.

Would a male rapist have committed less of a crime had he undergone a vasectomy sometime in his past? My point being that I'm not certain that the possibility of pregnancy really changes how horrid the crime is. Rape isn't bad simply for the reason that it can potentially cause pregnancy. It is bad because it is denying a person their inalienable right to allow them to choose what to have done to their body. This inalienable right exists for both men and women, and rape equally denies it to the individual no matter what gender they belong to. As such, rape is equally serious no matter who the perpetrator or victim is demographically.

I don't think that's necessarily the problem as there are women who can't get pregnant and I would consider their rape just as serious, stereo-typically women are weaker so it's easier to see them as the victim, there is also standard regarding sexual power (being drunk means a woman can not give consent but a guy can) and views on sex (if a woman rapes a guy there will be comments like "whats wrong with you she hot")

But they are just as serious because the trauma can last for years, it's like if your house gets robbed and a couple of electronics are stolen, they are only items and could be replaced by say insurance but it's the feeling of violation that affects people like this

A woman can get pregnant from being raped but has numerous opt outs, and man that was raped by a women can end up being forced into 18 years of child support under the threat of prison for non compliance.

All rape is serious. Full stop.

It will never be more important to prevent rape against one sex over the other. Once you start adding gender qualifiers to rape all you're doing is making the 'less serious' sex seem disposable for the good of the 'more serious' sex. You never start asking who to sacrifice - whether to give more funding to rape services for one sex over services for the other. You don't deliberate over focusing on preventing the murder of blacks over prevention of the murder of whites. You focus on preventing murder, period.

Of course, there are those that do succumb to thinking a certain sex can be sacrificed for the sake of the other - like the one who made the "rape against women is more serious" 'argument'. Such arguments accomplish nothing. All the "more serious" question does is distract from the issue at hand and reveals the gender preference of the person asking it. You can never convince such a person that rape against the other sex is "more" serious - the person you're arguing against has already made up their mind that half the population is 'more' disposable and is just looking for vindication.

Don't play in the Oppression Olympics. Rape against a person is serious. If you really feel the need to 'debate' with someone who's already picked a particular champion sex, stand firmly on the ground that such debate only serves to harm the 'least worthy' sex. Don't give them satisfaction by pitting sexes - people - against each other.
