It is interesting that those supporting the draft are making up hypotheticals where war would be justified. They know they can just enlist in that case without being forced to, right?

If there's another major war I want women in full combat positions equal to or in greater number than men. If they want equality, here's the last great and most significant hurdle. Men have done their part.

I'm a Former Marine grunt, if a draft were enacted, and I didn't have former service, I'd say fuck you and flee to Canada. Why? Not because I'd be scared to fight, but because I don't want some motherfucker in Washington telling me I have to fight while he keeps his own children away from the possibility of being drafted. I'll fight on my accord.

I would refuse to fight. I do not believe that war is justfied except in the case of ongoing invasion. Even if the USA was attacked (but not being invaded which is unlikely to ever happen) I would not fight. The USA has not acted with integrity for decades. Very likely if the USA is attacked it will have brought the attack upon itself. The USA government abuses its military power and does not deserve my support.

All I know is that I was going to answer "Yes, I would dodge" to the hypothetical question, although I do not face that possibility personally- being that I am Canadian and we don't have a draft. I'm also female, and would not be eligible even if we did, but there is no shame in dodging a draft. There should not BE a draft.

I actually support having U.S. military draft. But it's only for the reasoning that if the US forced people into military service against their will during wartime... the public would have a huge problem with any military action that isn't absolutely necessary (as they ought to have already).

If we had a draft, military intervention would be cut back drastically, and the draft would only be used in extremely important situations out of fear of a public backlash.

But all of that being said- I know a little bit about war, and I would choose draft dodging (or choose prison time) over military service. Maybe I'd make an exception for a military invasion of the US, but even then I'm not sure.

I'd research to see if there's any way to join up and ensure a non-combat role, I'd be willing to be part of the military... but I know myself, and I do not fit in dangerous situations, and would do what it takes to avoid that.

I don't support women in battlefield roles. But as one commentator pointed out, there are plenty of other ways to support the war effort, including basic stuff like all the empty civilian jobs.

Eh. I know I am biased because I have already served. I personally do not approve of draft dodging. That is just me and my "My country right or wrong" mentality. I do understand why people would want to dodge the draft though if it came to that. For the sake of equality though I believe our system is outdated and needs to require women to sign up for selective service. It is only the right thing to do.

I'm not an American so maybe I'm missing something here, but why do you guys automatically assume that the draft should be resisted/dodged? Sure if I would see my country as being in the wrong, then I wouldn't fight for it either. However, as a member of said country's populace, I cannot pretend that I don't have anything to do with its policies.
