The broads at NOW are dumber than dumb. It's greatly offensive when a commercial is marketed towards men using stereotypes. But any commercial geared towards women (with the men=bad, women = saviour stereotypes) are totally fine.

This reminds me of The Soft Shutdown article I read about a guy who created an outdoor strongman gym and when some of these types of women strolled in they simply ruined it for everyone to the point the guy shut it down instead of having to deal with their bitching and moaning about girl power and how it should be more "inclusive". It was meant for men and that drove those types of women up the wall so they had to get their 2 cents in. I'm seeing the same thing all over again.

It's juvenile enough so that the people raging against it look like idiots, but offensive enough so that the raging is sure to happen. Even better, it breaks no laws, makes no actual negative claims about women, and works entirely off overblown stereotypes. Anyways, here's what I posted in response to someone suggesting it was over the top, interesting because this legitimately came up in a school class a few weeks ago.

I don't know much about diets and calories, but according to the product website, 250 ml of normal Dr. Pepper have 100-110 calories, and the Diet Dr. Pepper has 0. Then, the 10 calories one is actually very low, almost like the Diet.

The ad seems more like a joke about the masculine stereotype instead "perpetuating stereotypical gender roles", no?

Anyway, NOW wasting the money of taxpayers in this shit is just crazy.

Interesting tidbit here: According to the Category: "Media Hall of Shame" it has been 3 goddamn months since the last time they had something worthy of nomination on their website (Last date was July 19th).

How many blatantly misandric marketing campaigns since 7/19/11 have their been?

All people are created equal, and so are all academic disciplines. To shun women's studies because they don't require the same grades, or the same knowledge, or the same reasoning skills than science, engineering, medicine, law, or pretty much any other field is just mean. And besides, we're all just jealous because they are empowered!

I actually felt like this article was a joke pointing out the absurdity of these types of claims. I mean how do you get all of that out of a 20 second ad? And Dr. Pepper - aren't there bigger and more important battles, even if this one had merit?

I'd like to point something out if I may. While this might be a brilliant marketing strategy, the people who are profiting from this do not give a fuck that this stirs up feminists (and women in general) and it fuels their fire against us. I understand that this is the same as having dumb guys in commercials, but we rail against that shit all the time.

I just don't think anybody should be congratulating them for reinforcing men and women's grievances for some carbonated drink. It undermines both sides.
