I've got some pretty awesome friends and relatives. My friends son wanted to kiss me as I was leaving their house - random, still don't know what urged him to do that as I only met the kid 5 min prior that. I had a helmet on, but the mother still lifted the boy up to my helmet so he could try and kiss me. Then he went into full cry mode when he couldn't do it through the helmet. We all just laughed it off, no awkward looks etc.
Although I was not keen on kissing the dude (and I didn't), I was not going to make a little boy make anyone feel uncomfortable - not like girls act weird in that situation either.

I have a strict policy of never speaking to kids unless they speak first and then I make a point of cutting the exchange short. If a kid moves towards me I'll normally dodge and ignore them.

There's not a cat in hells chance I'd ever look after someone else's kid. I don't even want to be left in a room with a kid unattended as society is such you will forever be suspected if even the slightest trigger happens (for example the bon-bon incident mention earlier).

I treat kids like airborne AIDS and considering events like the one posted do occur I think its a safe and sensible tactic to take.
