Wow, those Kutcher PSA's are fucking sexist as all hell. Fuck that talentless loser.

Being concerned about sex trafficking and sex workers is a noble idea, but how exactly is making vaguely related PSA's that look like they were produced by Funny Or Die helping the situation? Or over-exaggerating it? Why not just give that money to an underfunded organization that is already working on the problem?

Oh, that's right, because this isn't about helping sex traffic victims, it's about vanity. You haven't done anything worthwhile in a decade, so you have to keep your name in the press somehow. What better way than faux-charity. Fuck him.

Why the fuck do people use children like this? All of my life I have been told that there is some boogey man around every corner wanting to kidnap me and rape/murder me. It shocked the fuck out of me when I found out that there are only about 100 cases a year of this shit actually happening.

People use our fear of bad shit happening to our children to whip up money and power. Anytime some asshole says they are "protecting our children" I want to punch them in the face. There is a 99.999% chance that they are only trying to use some crazy stats to collect money and enact stupid laws.

Now I hate Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. To see Justin Timberlake involved makes me cringe because I really like him. I hope he is just ignorantly being caught up in this debacle.

EPCAT-USA makes a nonsensical defense of their stats at the link below. Basically, they say that their study is very "complete" and "comprehensive", and that lots of important politicians believe their numbers.

The stupidest part is when EPCAT-USA argues that their numbers are true because no formal study has ever refuted them. Their logic is asinine. They don't even try to address the facts cited in the Village Voice article, in which the authors examined actual police reports to find the real incidence of child prostitution.

On a side-note: this is what happens when real journalists confront feminist propaganda. Now you know why you can never read anything non-PC in the mainstream media: journalists are perfectly aware of what happened to their coworkers who dared criticize feminism.

If you want to read non-feminist opinions in the main-stream media, you have to voice your support for the very few journalists who dare to speak out - because when they do, their careers are in jeopardy.

Propagating false information does nothing for a very serious cause. As the article states, hundreds of children are sold as prostitutes and there are thousands more at risk.

The adage of all press is good press is false when it comes to science and trying to solve real problems.

Okay, there are a lot of separate topics being discussed here. Putting aside the "Real Men" ads and all of the Kutcher stuff, the Village Voice reporters did a poor job of refuting the study Kutcher referenced (which I haven't finished reading yet).

I plan to read the rest of the study, and I won't be surprised to find its science lacking. It's apparent from the introduction, though, that the study and the Voice were counting two very different sets of people. So of course they came up with very different numbers.

Village Voice counted only arrests for juvenile prostitution, only in large cities. The study tried to count "youth in the U.S. at special risk of sexual exploitation." No matter how you define "at risk," this is obviously a broader category than juvenile prostitutes. Even among children who are prostitutes in cities, many are treated as victims of exploitation instead of being arrested, so the Voice didn't count them. These two sets of people just aren't comparable, so the Voice's counter-study attempt contributes nothing to their argument.

It would've been more informative and convincing if they simple explained the scientific faults in the study.

The way to manipulate wikipedia is to study the policies, use them in arguments to delete as much as possible (bonus points for stuff people care strongly about), and ingratiate yourself with admins/power editors by rushing to support them when they engage in the same. Then you possibly cam spend that capital to spin an article to your preference.

I don't recommend being an ass, so I can't recommend spending effort on Wikipedia.
