TIL about women only train cars

I have lived in Japan and being groped on a train IS a common problem for women and girls. This is not one of those "5 out of every 3 women get raped on their way home from work" facts that get pushed around.

However, to make things fair, there should also be male only cars so that the proportion of male only cars to female only cars is the same as the proportion of male to female passengers, thus allowing both sexes an equal chance of actually getting on a train.

It seems ridiculous and unjust to American sensibilities. But there are places in this world where sexual assault by groups of men on women traveling is both endemic and socially condoned, and I can see why governments and transit companies would resort to segregating the sexes on trains in order to combat that bullshit.

In Japan it's a massive problem where school girls get groped by older males on trains in peak hour.

Happened to me in Europe too when I was back packing. Some old Spanish guy sat beside me and decided to feel me up.

Women shouldn't have to deal with this and unfortunately, until it stops happening, I think it's justified.

Men can still get on all of the other cars that these women will not be on, right? I don't see that big an issue. If anything, it's encouraging the segregation of women, not the segregation of men. And as someone who lived in Japan, it is a big problem over there. About 70% of women in studies admitted to being sexually assaulted on trains and considering that sexual assault is, well, sexual, that most of the people groping these women will not be women, as homosexuality is by nature a minority. If anything, it'll mean less men are wrongly accused of being sex offenders.

Lets just talk about Japan because unlike India etc its a true first world country. Japan has to pack people into trains like sardines. Then they have a culture where its more acceptable for a woman to stand there and endure being groped than to suffer the shame of causing a scene (seriously).

So the solution isnt to fix any of those problems, fuck no. The solution is to enact some kind of sexist policy where they vilify half the population (because think how much cheaper that is than actually doing anything constructive). Yeah I think its as bullshit as it sounds.

What are the arguments against sexism? Seriously?

How about women cant vote because they lack the capacity to fucking reason (the ancient greeks actually beleived that). See, thats sexist.

How about women shouldnt be paid the same as men because not only are their brains smaller but they are weaker too (in contrast these are both true for the vast majority and biologically verifiable). Still sexist.

How about we treat women and men differently in court because women are weaker and need the protection of the state from the big bad men? Sexist

How about we keep black people out of white facilities because they are violent and more prone to aggression like a fucking animal. Oh wait, shit thats racist. How did that slip in there?

The point is any time you take someone (anyone of any gender or race or sexual orientation or whatever) and judge them based on some stereotype and then use that as the basis for some kind of social policy, especially to treat them unjustly or different from everyone else ITS FUCKING IMMORAL. sexism, racism, agism...all that bullshit...immoral

Its asinine that in this day and age we cant even look at a textbook example of sexism and call it what it is. Seriously, you can go point it out to them in the TIL thread and youll just get downvoted to shit because, "OMG its not sexist if its to vilify men and protect the womens!"

I find it a tad bit insulting, that its assumed I will grope a woman on a train. On the otherhand, I understand their reasoning, in wanting to give women a "judgement free" or otherwise less stressful place to be while traveling.

This may not make much sense in a developed western country, but people are thankful for these cars in India. I have seen separate cars in Mumbai's local trains and New Delhi's Metro trains.

The way I see it, it is not hurting anyone and women are free to travel in any of the cars if they want to (along with men). They are not segregated per se.

To keep it short they exploit and propagate fears not only demonizing men in society but also terrorizing women and scaring the shit out of them making them more paranoid than they need to be.

This would depend on the country of origin, I think. There are a lot of countries that lack the law and order present in a lot of American and European mass transit systems. If a country is lawless enough to have a genuine problem of this type, then I do not see an issue.

If this is a law in a first-world country with no real issue of mass rape, then its just rape hysteria.
