Women's Studies Professor Responds To College Republicans Week With An Email Expressing Two Words "F@#$ You"

I find this incident amusing for several reasons.

First, this could not have gone better for the College Republicans. Their (real or perceived) victimhood has been entirely vindicated. Their group has gotten nationwide publicity and I would not be surprised if a response like this was part of the reason why they sent out a mass email.

Secondly, I am incredibly surprised at a professor acting this way. At my university the views of women's studies professors are well known. But they are not stupid enough to act like this. Maybe she had a bad day or something but it only takes the merest foresight to realize what would happen after sending that email.

Thirdly, I love how she is trying to shift the issue to the College Republican's use of gay terminology from her verbally abusing a student. I very sincerely hope that the people who are reviewing her tenure keep that in mind as well. If this happened at a reasonable school in a reasonable political climate she would be fired.

My take on this is that the university should have some policy against mass unsolicited email. That really is annoying.

Even so, what the professor did was pretty unprofessional.

But I'm not really seeing it as a huge deal. Post another link when the professor does something to silence the voice of people she disagrees with - I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that she, or her students, somehow disrupt the republicans' little gathering.

You know what would have been awesome - instead of whining about what the professor said, when she mentioned that she was angry because she had been reading about republicans in the news, it would have been really awesome if the representative of the republicans had replied that he and his peers will be the next generation of republicans, and that their views aren't yet set in stone, and that she should be using this precious time to engage them in dialog and attempt to change their opinions - that she is in a unique position to have influence, and she basically blew it.

That would have been a flawless victory. Whining, and getting a forced apology, is not victory.

I'm a Young Republican and have responded in a similar style to my group on campus. I fucking hate their spam and rhetoric.

This email exchange reveals both the innate desire to communicate anger using inflamed rhetoric, and the opposing reflex of those offended to overreact.

So the Women's Studies professor was expressing justifiable anger, and was not herself overreacting.

I also love the feminist's apology...

"I admit the language was inappropriate, and apologize for any affront to anyone's delicate sensibilities."

That's right, she's got the fucking balls to accuse other people of having 'delicate sensibilities'. What a fucking embarrassment to her gender.

I wouldn't want to be spammed by the College Republicans either, not would I want the whiny little fuckwads to ask for a "public apology" and then post the resultant emails on the Internet.

But no, professors can't use the f-word to students. It's unprofessional. And look what happens when you do.

(The Faculty Advisor was STUPID STUPID STUPID to respond to any of this in writing, BTW. This called for a brief, unemotional in-person interview with all involved. Even if he's on the "side" of the Young Republicans, he should have known that they would put this up on the Net to the detriment of his institution's reputation.)

Where are the calls to have her fired? There should be a huge public outcry for her grossly unprofessional behavior, not to mention clearly vile perspectives towards others who don't think like herself.

1.) If you don't like it ignore it. I consider myself conservative and I don't go pissing my pants every time I get LGBT related emails (probably 4-5 per year).

2.) She was talking about sensitivity and all that bullshit but I do recall several instances of insensitivity in part of liberals. LGBT using a rainbow as their flag. The rainbow is part of the Noah's ark story. I'm sure a lot of people were pissed when homosexuals announced that their flag was a rainbow. Also, there's some atheist national convention going on at on the same day as Easter.

Anyway, the obvious use of other people's symbols goes both ways. If you don't like it, ignore it, that's what I do.

its become hiply ironic to use language/insults that at one time were considered the trademarks of the half wit knuckle draggers who couldnt piece together a real insult/criticism

my guess is, they think they can get by with just saying 'fuck you', because they are so obviously intelligent and well informed, with such good reasons for their anger, and they are so affronted by the blinding (and oh so obvious) stupidity of their opposition, that they would be excused for using such a plain insult. and no one could blame them for reverting to a plain 'fuck you', because their opposition is so clearly in the wrong, and they are just so exasperated with explaining these things to mental invalids

people identify well with this hipster faux simpletonism, as evident by the karma theses types of submissions get on reddit

I love how he states, the CR have first amendment rights. Hell, "fuck you" is speach and also protected. I am on her side.
