Almost 2 years ago now, my (now ex) girlfriend and I got into a pretty nasty fight. Let me back up a bit and set the stage.

I'm 6'5" and around 300 lbs. I'm a big fella. She is 5'3" and roughly 120 lbs.

So, that night, my girl got drunk. Really really drunk. We got into an argument over God knows what. I think she wanted to pee in a cup and I told her to use the bathroom.

Anyhow, she wouldn't leave it alone and kept trying to argue with me. I avoided her and tried to leave the room and apartment several times, but she kept sitting in front of doors. Eventually, it got violent. She balled up her fists and began attacking me. Kicking, punching, and biting. I just cowered, trying to block her attacks as best I could. Being my size, if I did fight back, I could have seriously hurt her. I don't work out or anything, but I do have the whole Lenny thing going for me.

She would not leave me alone. Minutes turned into hours. I reduced myself to begging and pleading with her to stop. "Please, just let's talk about this in the morning. Get some sleep." She would have none of it. At one point, I tricker into the bathroom and held the door shut. When she gave up trying to get out, I quietly snuck away and hid in the closet. I was safe all of 20 minutes before she came rampaging out and somehow found me. That set her off more. The physical assault commenced, now with verbal assaulting. She let me know that she has been "sexting" one of her ex's for months now. I'm apparently worthless and ugly and she hates me. I look back now at the things she said, and I shrug it off. Whatever, they're just words. But at the time, when they were coming from someone who supposedly loved me? It cut me deep.

5 hours in, I was sure she was at least starting to sober up. the problem is, she was so lost to her rage, she didn't care why she was angry, only that she was angry. I eventually got into the bedroom and got the door shut. I just sat in front of the door and used my weight to block it from her. After an hour of verbal assault and beating on the door with various household objects, she settled down and went to bed. I remained by the door for what seemed like an eternity. I shut off the bedroom light and noticed the rest of the apartment was dark (no light coming from under door). So, I quietly crawled into bed and went to sleep.

Suddenly I was jolted awake by a weight dropping on me. Then I was being pummeled by fists and my hair was being pulled. My eyes adjusting to the sudden light, my girlfriend was on top of me swinging and cussing. I pushed her off of me onto the floor. She stood up, eyes red and full of hate and she came at me. So, I slapped her. Not hard. It made a loud clap and stunned her a moment as she tried to comprehend what just happened. Then I saw the hurt in her eyes. I thought maybe I got through to her. But no, as tears streamed from her eyes, she stood and ran into our apartment building hallway, screaming "Oh God! Help me!"

I panicked. Blind fear came over me and I pulled her inside the apartment and covered her mouth with my hand. Tears were streaming down my face and I tried to shush her. I pleaded with her to be quiet, but she kept screaming for help when I moved my hand away from her mouth.

Finally, I calmed her down. I was shaking with terror. I went into the bedroom to lie down, she slept on the couch in the living room. About an hour later, I'm awoken to the sounds of pounding on my door. I throw on some shorts (it was March in Casper, Wyoming... so still basically winter there) and answer. It was Casper's finest, responding to a call from one of my neighbors. I let them in, and was very forthcoming with everything. I told them what was going on, and the cop was pretty understanding... until I told him about slapping my girlfriend. The two cops tensed up and one asked my girlfriend to come out in the hallway to talk to him. The other, who was just a really decent guy, sternly asks me to go into the bedroom and put on my shoes. They radio in the situation and tell me that under Wyoming Law, we are both to be brought in under the FVPA (Family Violence Protection Act).

Here's what raced through my mind at that moment: a few minutes ago, they were going to do nothing when they learned it was just her beating me. But, because I got "violent," we're going to be brought in.

I was charged with Domestic Violence and sentenced to 6 months supervised probation, mandatory anger management classes, and over $300 in court fines. My girlfriend was sentenced to the same, and for the 6 months, we were to have no contact with each other. the deal with the DA was this: after 6 months, if we completed everything successfully, they'd render our case "Dismissed." We successfully completed everything, and spent 6 months apart.

So, since then, I have moved back to Nevada. I applied at three places that did background checks. All three checks came back to me with a "Guilty" plea on them. Obviously I didn't get hired for "lying" on my application. I called my PO and even the courthouse to get it straightened out. "All our computers say Dismissed, sir." Nobody is willing to step forward and help me out.

So, fast forward to three weeks ago. I was speaking to my ex on the phone. She had some of my things and needed my address. We got to talking about things and I told her about my background checks.

"That's funny. I've had 4 background checks done and they've come back with nothing on them," she said.

"You mean they say 'Dismissed' under the plea?"

"No. They don't even have Wyoming on my record except under my former address."

She e-mailed me copies for me to look at, and sure enough, there isn't even a "dismissed" under the plea. there is nothing. As far as anyone's concerned, she wasn't even arrested in Casper, Wyoming.

I've been on the phone back and forth with my PO to get this all straightened out. I just sent her an envelope with the documents that my ex e-mailed me. According to the Court House, we are both to have "dismissed" in our pleas, and that's what all of their computer work is saying. Still, people seem annoyed at me when I call to get it straightened out, which means that they are just spewing the same excuses and not even doing anything about it.

I don't know why I'm still being punished.
