The generation of women getting into their 30's are largely aware of the cat owning spinster stereotype and avoid it. They mostly go for dogs in the place of kids these days.

It's a real common trope for girls to act like their dogs are their kids. For Father's Day I saw one girl added photos of her dad holding her dogs, as if they were his grandkids.

I know of an old cat woman who is literally a meme personality, totally fitting the stereotype. It was my ex-neighbor when I lived in apartment, and she was always a bit crazy and nagging, but after her husband left her (imagine divorcing at 60 years old) she went 100% crazy. She had like 5 cats at the bare minimum, don't remember, the entire strairway was always full of the cat's fur, and the meowing sound and stomping all night long according to other neighbors. Everybody hated her because she always nagged everyone, threatened people with the police for minor things, and was constantly harrassing people (deserving really a nice fine and lawsuit but most people just shrugged it over completely ignoring her). Basically she was just seeking some attention in the most annoying ways, but everyone knew just to ignore her and go by your regular day because you don't want to bicker with crazy. Eventually she just backed off after she alienated even her best friend, and now is is a sad bitter old woman. Sad life, I wish I knew more about her youth, but I can already imagine if she were to be young today how she would have behaved. Remember ladies, this is a potential future for you if you behave with people in a bad way, you will be left alone and bitter. Isn't it just better if you are nice to people and hold on to a caring family instead of being a lonely bitter old person?
