I'm in the UK where this trend originated back in October. I've tried to follow up on this, but it's concerning how little information there is.

From what I've read (a variety of sources), most experts and medical professionals are saying that it's unlikely to be an effective way to spike someone. There's been a variety of debates about what type of toxin could be effectively injected quickly and covertly - some toxins requires massive needles due to the thickness of the liquid, for example GBH.

From the reports, there isn't anything to back up that these victims have toxins in their systems.

This is where the dismissal of victims accounts begin.

What has disappointed me is the wording these experts choose. Note that I've said it's unlikely to be an EFFECTIVE way of spiking someone - multiple experts have worded it along the lines of "it's unlikely to be happening, it's possible mass hysteria".

Given the number of accounts, the evidence of dart-like bruising indicative of a puncture wound, illness afterwards requiring hospitalisation, reports to the police, this cannot be dismissed.

Has anyone ever used an epi-pen or a lancet or other similar device? I've used a lancet and my body went into shock. I fell over, went floppy, started retching, developed a cold sweat.

I think it's most likely that there are scrotes on the dark web selling spiking injection devices to other scrotes. I think they are using them on people, not knowing that it's an ineffective way of delivering a toxin. I think it's possible the victims feel the pain and display shock-like symptoms which is exacerbated by alcohol consumption.

In short, despite the expert advice saying it's an ineffective way of spiking someone, that doesn't mean there aren't ATTEMPTS at spiking someone in this way. I wish the victims were being taken much more seriously.

EDIT to add - one expert said that if you think someone has attempted to inject you, try and bleed from the site of injection by running it under cold water and keep the wound open.

It seems silly to say that its an ineffective way to dose someone when you can kill someone with a tiny speck of fentanyl that is so small you can barely see it. There are drugs out there that you only need a tiny amount to seriously injure someone. I hope the girl in the story gets her liver enzymes checked because she might have gotten something super harmful.

This is terrifying! We've learned to never leave our drinks unattended, and so they change up to this. So scary. And so many people are saying it's a new urban myth. We need to get the word out there.

I'm on the east coast of the US, and I had a needle mark on the inside of my bicep the morning after a bar outing with some people from work. I've no suspicion that anyone from work did it - but I was at the bar, the dancefloor, and the bathroom a few times on my own, it was incredibly crowded, and I was extremely drunk. I don't think I got drugged, but someone still stabbed me with something. No one took it seriously or believed me, even though it was fairly obvious what that mark was. I've never had a mark like that, except for when I've had blood taken at the doctor's office.

Even if it's not an effective way to drug someone, even if it's not a syringe of anything they're using to jab women with, some sick freaks are still assaulting us with sharp objects when we're obviously drunk. They're angry that women are going out and having a good time without them, and they want to punish us and scare us for it. Imagine being so pathetic that you have to stab strangers with a needle to feel better about your miserable ass life.
