Seems like she's not really in a great position to get much spousal support, if any. Is she disabled? Can she work? Does she have a degree? Did she forego a career to help you get a degree? She's not a stay at home mom ... so ... I'd get some legal advice on it but really not many cards for her to play.

What state? How much does she make? How much do you make? What assets did you each have before the marriage? What assets did you acquire or grow during your marriage?

You’re lucky as your marriage was not too long.

Each US State has different divorce laws so it’s best to seek counsel to protect your interests.

With that said and out of the way, you may only have to pay alimony for a short time. In my US State, any marriage beyond 10 years, the spouse with the higher salary may end up paying indefinitely for alimony.

In your case, possible alimony pay for about 2-years. Of course with Legal Counsel, your lawyer can fight for you in terms hardship, etc.

Depends on your state, and the delta in incomes. Typically spousal support duration is half the duration of the marriage. You need to retain an attorney in your county, and your attorney will be able to evaluate if spousal support is likely. Much of it depends on the judge assigned to your case, and the standards for spousal support if you live in a state that doesn't have clear spousal support statutes.

At most she might get a years worth. You definitely have a stronger case for her not getting spousal support. See what your lawyer says 👍

Giving an update. She agreed to terms with me without having to go through a lawyer because we just want the divorce process over and done. The last step is for her signatures and they’ve been sent to her and just waiting for the return forms. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel

She's not getting anything. Tell her you want spousal support for her for 4 years of paying her way through life.

Well with mine that is currently going on the judge gave her temporary support and I have a court order to pay all the house's bill which she has paid electric and gas since we have been together for 31 years filed almost 2 years ago and it's not over yet, and she has a masters degree and a professor, so the judge always decides

Personally, I think she is trying to pipe smoke up your ass. But then again there are other variables such as, are you both working, who has the larger paycheck. Is there a trust or inheritance involved etc. If you don't have one as yet, get a good lawyer. Your lawyer will be much better equipped to help you. Good luck.
