Default should be a 50/50. Even when abuse is evident by a mother some judges rule in their favor. What about the abusive moms that get custody and then kill a child? This could also help some kids. It cuts both ways. In the end be careful who you have children with.

The good news is that DeSantis recently stated in an interview that fatherlessness is a major root of many societal ills. There is a fair chance that he will support 50/50 custody.

Equal shared parenting has proven to result in the least amount of conflict in divorce cases.

As a male survivor of extreme family court and domestic emotional abuse, I find the canard that ‘abuse victims will just fight harder’ offensive in the extreme. The court only cares about abuse when it helps its bottom line. That’s evil.

As the vast majority of allegations of abuse are done to secure primary custody of the children thus securing the primary financial support of the other parent and just out of pure vindictiveness, I'm sure if they are not rewarded for their lying, they will lie less.

I have watched videos of judges and AGs testifying against shared parenting. Without exception, they cite the ridiculously sexist canard that ‘dads just don’t want to pay child support.’

At the root of all of this is that these individuals (who oversee family court) are testifying their own prejudice (for which they should be disbarred) and base it on their fear that the Title IV-D gravy train of free federal welfare will stop (some even openly admit it), which will impact the state’s bottom line (which includes retirement accounts).

In short, the people who oversee these cases and systems are nothing more than miserable smack addicts. The best interests of the family (specifically the children) are by their own admission a complete non-factor when weighed against their own personal checkbooks.

It is my belief that people who hold these views objectively are harming children, and should therefore be held in the same regard as any other individual who would willfully cause harm to a child.

The bill is still Order Enrolled. It still has not been presented to the governor. According to FL Law, the governor has 15 days after it is presented in order to sign or veto. If he does nothing it still gets passed and effective 07/01/2022. The governor office is not sitting on the bill the truth is it hasn’t even reached his desk yet. I reached out to Senator Grueter’s office to see what the hold up was and they simply stated it should be presented before the middle of the summer (before the effective date)

If it doesn't get passed/signed after the midterms DeSantis (and by extention the GOP) has lost a substancial amount of credibility in my books.

Former Gov. Scott vetoed a bill that included 50/50 as a baseline. It included other language that maybe he injected to but he never expressed. Word on the street Scott had daddy issues, aka beta male. Hopefully Ronnie D does the right thing..

Realistically, the "oh the other person might be abusive" argument against the bill doesn't make sense.

Women are just as likely to be abusive as men are, yet women are given custody over 90%+ of the time. Why would it make sense to continue the status quo where an abuser can win 90% of the time?

Oh wait, the rhetoric rests on the idea that men are abusive and get custody a minority of the time... hmmm convenient?

Lawyers oppose this bill because it simplifies the law and therefore enables many parents to resolve custody issues without hiring them.

To those who are opposed to this bill, note that 50-50 is not required, it is a starting point.

It seems like a fair bill unless one of the parents is a real danger to the kids then of course one of the parents should get 100 percent custody. But if both parents are loving and responsible it should be 50/50
