Left an abusive woman of 10 years and it took me about 6 months of therapy and self reflection before I was ready to date. Had a panic attack on my first date with a wonderful woman, who thought I was rejecting her (because I had to leave). She stuck it and met with me again, and slowly drew me out of my “safe space” and back into society. Depends on the situation. I went nearly a decade staying out of the dating scene after divorcing my sons mom. After my next relationship ended it was a few months before I felt ready.

About three months after the submission of the petition. Nothing serious, just brushing up my social skills. I won't commit to anything serious or binding until the settlement is accepted by the court. I am up-front with my dates about my situation and status.

There really is no right answer to this but rather what is best for you. People are at different detachment levels when it happens and have different coping mechanisms. Being with someone new can give insight as does spending time finding yourself. Just try to identify bad habits and then try not to fall back on em.

I started dating about 3 weeks after I filed for divorce and got my own place.

It was just casual dating. Nothing long term.
