Disgusting. Hopefully he appeals all the way to the supreme court.But If a man in Michigan has no legal right to his child even while married(they were going through a divorce when the mother gave the baby up for adoption) then how can a man be forced to pay child support? This ruling says he has no legal standing as a parent.

Think for a moment how outright evil the adoptive parents have to be. They literally and knowingly stole a man's child from him when they knew from almost day one that the biological father wanted him.

Do you think they're ever going to be honest with the child as it grows up? Tell him that oh yes your father fought for years because he wanted you so badly.

Nah they're going to just spin a story about how Noble they were to adopt this baby that needed a home. No doubt they're the heroes in this story

Thanks for sharing. I have read that fathers normally have the right to claim a surrendered newborn as written in the law but I’ve been pretty doubtful of it working in practice. Looks like my suspicions are confirmed unfortunately. Just more confirmation that men have no reproductive rights.

I fucking hate the biased, emotive language chosen to describe the father's claim, "child RIPPED FROM THE ARMS of the ONLY PARENTS he has known".... etc. As if the father would act with such violence. As if returning a stolen child is an act of cruelty.

If this little boy had been stolen from the hospital and raised by his abductors. they would not be using that language for handing the child back to his father.

ffsssss... I am so angry. If there was ever a case for MRM to rally and chuck a mass protest, this one would be it.

Just so I have this right.... The mother and father split before she has the baby, he files for divorce. She has the baby, doesn't inform him and surrenders the child at the hospital. The church adoption agency places the child with a family and puts a very vague notice in the paper to say the parents have 28 days to change their mind. In the meantime, the father is trying to get the information about when his baby was born (so even if he saw the notice he wouldn't have known it was relevant to him). He then spends the next three/four years trying to get his child back.

This is so completely messed up! I don't think I read a single mention of the absolute agony he must have been going through in all of this. The only quotes from attorneys seem to be focused around the rights and feelings of adoptive families and mothers - the mother who callously surrendered her baby and did not tell the father, and she would have been well aware of how he felt about the baby.

It really makes me feel so sad about the world we live in.

I'm Catholic. Catholics usually believe in natural law, so it seems to me Catholic Charities is acting against Church teaching. But most of the article is paywalled so I can't read the whole thing.

IMAGINE the national outcry if a father took his child and told the mother the child had died and then gave it up for adoption, and then the court did not rule for the mother.
