Disney has been riding the misandry train for years now.

A) corporations always take the path of least resistance. You didn't see any gay pride month rainbow company logos in the 80s, when it would have been extremely unpopular. In the 2020s, every company trips over themselves to show how supportive they are.

B) Television and movies are reflexive. They influence social attitudes, but they are also extremely influenced by social attitudes. We live in a deeply misandrist society, so most TV and movies will go with the flow.

If we put those two things together: Disney is a huge TV and movie corporation, and western society is utterly soaked in misandry, so of course Disney is sexist down to its cowardly little core.

Idc all western media is woke garbage. I gave up on it a few years ago. I keep my ear open but go into something I do think I will like with caution. I haven't seen a movie since Deadpool 2 that hasn't had atleast 1 woke line. I want entertainment stop pushing propaganda down my throat. It is why I mostly hate Disney now. They are most likely the ones to really shove it down your throat. I watch mostly shows from other countries. Even British ones are less woke. You really want entertainment without woke garbage? But yeah Lightyear was weird. I've heard parents complaining about that particular part because it led to very awkward conversations with their children about how two women can have a baby. If they had just had a single line in the movie about adoption or something it could have been easily avoided. But I guess Buzz Lightyear comes from a utopia where men aren't needed for reproduction either.

Wait, I'm not against showing kids with 2 lesbian parents. I also support showing two male parents. What's wrong with that?

What I don't support is the bullshit trope of the single mom and the "deadbeat dad". I want more representation of 50/50 custody because in the past decade 50/50 has become possible in 30+ states and is even the mandatory default in one state as of earlier this year. I want that on TV instead.

America Chavez is one of the only people in Marvel Comics who can travel between dimensions, and moreover, has the lack of other powers (and training with the ones she does have) to make her running away from Wanda make sense.

Maybe Lightyear does have some weird misandrist plot but I highly doubt something like that was the case for Dr. Strange 2.

It was still a pretty crappy movie though

Edit: I'm laughing at so many replies here... Disney is bringing out some pretty damn cool characters from the comics, like She-Hulk, and are doing a very comic accurate job of it (at least from what I've seen), but these people are apparently pressed that they're showing these "female" versions of characters are "smarter and wiser" than the "male" ones

Yeah, I noticed in Lightyear how she married a woman and mysteriously had a child.

I dare say we have to pretend that gay couples can actually have children otherwise we’re “lessening” their relationships!

They’ve made the move from metaphors (dragons and magic) to actual denial of reality! Dragons are solely a metaphor and fantasy figure, but gays and lesbians are very much a real part of life, and the truth of it is that they do not have children by each other. And this is the issue. During the SSM discussions (such as they were) it was claimed that marriage and children were “unrelated” and so the fact that two men or two women could not produce a child was not a reason to deny them a marriage to each other. And now Disney seems intent on showing this to be a lie, and solving it by a further lie: that two women can produce children.

Do “progressivists” not read their own arguments? The argument is that marriage does not always mean children but does not mean it’s any less of a marriage (Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner explicitly said the opposite but that’s forgotten). And yet they’re now tearing this line up and claiming it’s “progressive”.

I think that’s the ugly truth of so-called “progressivists”. They lack integrity. They say these things, but they don’t really mean them. They don’t actually respect gay and lesbian relationships in their own right, but have to pretend they’re “the same” as hetero ones, even where it comes to denying reality. It’s the same with denying the higher upper body strength of men over women (some women are extremely strong, but the truth is that there are way more men than women who can press a certain weight no matter how much training they do). Disney seeks to indoctrinate, but the aim is to have half of the fire departments filled with people (women) inducted on a lower (much lower) physical standard, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. People, and lots of them, will die because of this dishonest mentality.

Disney depicted women as useless for most of their existence. It didn't really bother me. But now they've started depicting men how they used to depict women and it is unacceptable. Men are not useless and reliant on women for help. Men are not some damsel in distress.

I don't know how women put up with depictions like this for so long.
