For what it's worth, I can anecdote about this all day. I work in a traditionally guy-heavy trade. My wife works in an extremely guy-heavy trade that was one of the last in the developed world to open up to women. Both of us are often approached by young people who want to do what we do, and both of us are keen to help.

Both of us have met young women who claim they'd like to do what we do, but are afraid to try because they've been told - well, indoctrinated into the idea - that the world is out to stop them getting into the career they want. Ask why and they'll almost invariably make vague, emotive, fact-free references to "the news" or "social media." Overwhelmingly, what's stopping these people is not me or anyone I've ever even heard of. I'm not telling people they can't succeed. I'm not telling them they can't have the job. I'm not telling anyone she can't have a good career and I've never once even heard of anyone else doing that. That view is coming from the forces of critical race and gender theory, fourth-wave and intersectional feminism, and related ideologies, who have learned that pushing that agenda gives them a lot of political power.

Edit re the comments in a reply below - what I'm talking about here is the modern popularised concept of critical theory, which is really not what critical theory was originally supposed to be about. For more information read about Max Horkheimer on Wikipedia, and be aware that what's currently described in terms such as "critical race theory" is a complete perversion of the original work, and really just exists as a convenient way to prove more or less anything about more or less anyone. Horkheimer, and his buddies, would have been horrified, though that's more or less what "critical race theory" means in modern discourse.

This stuff is shit for everyone.

You go to HR when someone is behaving inappropriately in the workplace. That has nothing at all to do with the skills you have or the career you pursue. It has to do wuth a coworker's misbehavior.

There are people in this thread defending ivermectin as the true cure for COVID, if anyone wanted a clearer picture of how deeply poisoned the discourse about "men's rights" has become by far right pundits there you have it.

Most of the people here couldn't give less of a shit about actually improving men's standing in areas where they are actually disadvantaged, like not being allowed to express their emotions freely or being forced to fulfill traditionally masculine roles exclusively.

I would bet most of the people usually featured here would call those things "radical wokeism gone too far" and ridicule any who argued for those.

Any hope this subreddit ever had of having a positive impact is long gone, it is only a first step in the far right pipeline.
