Ahh, again, I see this all the time and they always make the races the same. Evil Toxic White Male stopped by gigachad black male from oppressing wahmen.

I know the isn't the place for a racial discussion, but the pattern is there. Even with the men's Gillette ad, if anyone has to be the bad guy, it's a white man, but if there's a good man, it has to be a black man. - can someone explain to me why that is though? Because I've noticed it, but I can't really explain it.

What I do know is that they're trying to emasculate white men, and make white men the absolute pinnacle of evil and "patheticness". Just watch this collection of ads:

I think this is a valid post as it tries to spread the same message as the Gillette ad. Men must stop other men to protect women, which sounds fair, except there's never ads on women or men trying to reach out to men who may be suffering depression or other mental health or financial issues. It's coming closer to Christmas, and this is usually the time I get my depressive episodes, and the time many people take their lives. A majority of the homeless population are male, and they will be living in the cold this winter, and although there are programs that house and feed the homeless, they typically prioritize women and children.

this post isn't meant to say that domestic violence towards women isn't important- my point is that I'm still seeing this on TV now even though the original video was posted 8 months or so ago. I thought we were past gendering domestic violence and it just gives off the impression that the amount of male victims of DV/abuse/harassment don't matter enough to be included in a campaign to stop domestic violence? If anything that's not going to encourage men to come forward.

I agree that it would be nice to have male victims included, but these are issues that should be addressed by society, too. I liked this commercial.

I don't think this ad is sinister at all. I think domestic violence faced by men is different and really needs another ad for itself. I also don't think there was any racial element to this ad. I believe it is somewhat racial in that if it were the black man catcalling the ad would be called racist so there is kinda a racial element.

I think a lot of dv against males comes from the normalization of female violence. The cliche of a woman destroying a man's car or all his stuff, or getting mad and hitting him, usually out of a suspicion of cheating is pretty normal. Seeing a man get hit or just verbally harassed without end is something people wouldn't think to report.

In reality most abuse comes in lesbian relationships per capita. Lesbian relationships are much more often physically abusive than any other kind. Gay male relationships are the least abusive.

DV is a complex issue and the entirety of it can't be summed up in one ad. I don't think this ad is bad but it would be nice to have other ads to protect other people.
