At least according to the movie she was essentially being forced to play along against her will. Her mom says if she doesn't marry the guy they will wind up on the streets because they're only upper class by name. Also at the time not having a male figure is not a great place to be for women. Apparently rose's father was dead, either way he wasn't there so...

Cal did a lot of good things on paper but he also treats her like another possession, and he does abuse her plenty whereas Leonardo dicaprio was the only who acknowledged her right to her agency as she almost commits suicide just to escape her plight. (DiCaprio talks her out of throwing herself over the edge and almost gets arrested for looking like he was assaulting her, which leads to cal inviting him to dinner for being a hero). DiCaprio in that sense was not the reason why she ultimately cheated.

What she did to her actual husband post Titanic is way way worse. She had no interest in Cal, the fact that he couldn’t accept that is whatever, not her problem. On the other hand she had a husband after titanic who she was with until his death and lived basically her entire life with and on her death decides to be with this bum she fucked on a boat for 2 days when she was 17.

Billy Zane acts consistently like a cunt throughout the entire movie. He's comically insufferable. He does freely gift his money to Kate Winslet though. Foolish on his part because she clearly has no interest in him from the start. He's the 1914 equivalent of the guy you see in the supermarket screaming that his watch costs more than the cashier's entire life.

As for his suicide, it's historically accurate that he would have killed himself. We're talking about an age where idiotic notions of chivalry dominated Western culture. Many men who survived the Titanic were viewed as failures and cowards. Lots of male survivors killed themselves because of the shame.

This bitch gets flown out in to the middle of the ocean and is asked where the diamond she rejected is

Turns out she stole it and has had it for decades

Instead of telling the people who brought her here though, she goes into a diatribe about how she fucked a 17 year old when she was engaged.

At the end of the story she drops said diamond that she’s had the entire time into the ocean because not only was Rose selfish on the boat, she’s carried that selfishness over to her old age.

Because she could’ve easily given the diamond to her kids and grandkids. She has a granddaughter in the movie.

But no she symbolically gives it back to Jack, the 17 year old dick this 90 year old woman is still thinking about
