The Daily Mail had two articles on this and one of them said it best :

If a male-only social network was launched that let men rate their former conquests in terms of attractiveness and sexual ability, it probably wouldn't go down very well. But somehow, a female-only equivalent is OK.

Rather than "imagine being a man reading slanderous material posted about you", HuffPo has to say "imagine that we lived in a hypothetical world where men created Lulu to victimize women, and in this scenario, how would you feel?"

Really tells you a lot. Rather than put yourself into the shoes of a man, you have to reframe the entire situation to fit the idea of the female as the victim

I was just thinking about a male version of this app.

It wouldn't necessarily be explicitly sexual in nature, rather I'd love to know if the woman I'm dating is a cheater, or if they're the type of insecure person to accuse others of things non stop, or gets off on putting others down --

I imagine women fear that we'd objectify and identify the surest method into their pants but really I want to save time by finding out if they're materialistic, insecure, manipulative, liars, abusive, mean or any number of other things which take getting to know a person to truly know.

Alight I downloaded the app to see if I can find myself on it. You need to have a facebook for a female. Not very hard to fake.

But you can only review people you are friends with on Facebook and only the guys friends can see them. Female friends that is.

Well solve the problem. Only be friends on Facebook with actual friends. I don't see the point in being friends with 1k people. So out of my 30 friends on Facebook I have zero exes and zero girls I've dated. Why? Because we aren't friends. Now if you're worried about an ex whose now your friend posting hateful shit about you, well then she isn't your friend after all.

I disagree with the title of this thread. I think Sam (the author) doesn't make this "about women being the primary victims of Lulu".

The reason women are the primary "focus" of her article is because she's sharing her perspective as a woman. It's interesting, because it's different from the bitching over Lulu that I usually read coming from men's perspectives.

She mentions men as victims, at the end, mainly to point out the hypocrisy that not enough women are protesting this sort of app.

What's funny is that there isn't an app like this for men. Know why? Cause men don't need a fucking app like that, a man dates a crazy girl once and then he can spot every crazy girl after that a mile away. It's intuitive. Women consistently date the same losers time and time again, ignoring all the good guys everywhere. And then complain how no man respects her.

This is a great article, I do not appreciate the inflammatory title of your post OP. There is nothing wrong with judging something and analyzing it through different lenses. Realizing that this article is just, and just serves to undermine relationships is great. It's a feminist calling out women on their BS, and telling them to be better. What's wrong with that?

Since this app came out, I've known how hilariously hypocritical it was and always chucked at the shit storm that would erupt if a male version was made.

At the same time, my roommates and I think its a riot to read through and we're always trying to beat one another's ratings. Hate it in principle, love it in reality.

If this doesn't seem bad enough, committed faithfuls can be assessed by the ghosts of girlfriends past with phrases like #ForgotMyBirthday and thrown into the same pool as bad boys, serial daters and dumpers, aka #TotalF*ckingDickhead #IncapableOfCommitment. This is ... #WildlyOffensive.

So by this point, if you're single, Lulu has poured salt in your most recent wounds and deterred you from the nice guy you went out with last night.

My close friend -- let's call him Andrew -- has been with his girlfriend for two years. Aside from being a loyal, committed boyfriend to her, he has been a tremendously good friend to me. Not to mention, he's just a really great guy. Last night, after having read the NYT article he asked his girlfriend to look him up on this app. Curiosity killed the cat, man. What transpired was hours of fighting and questioning. If it ain't broke, don't break it apart into a million pieces by creating a forum where other girls can talk about sex with your boyfriend!

I felt deeply saddened that good men who treated me wonderfully for years were reduced to such unoriginal and mean-spirited hashtags. Here I am searching dates and times of when my ex-ex-ex may or may not have slept with girls post our breakup, fuming at the prospect of someone I cared about with someone else. It's crazy-making. It's painful. Not funny. Not fun. I found myself "re-mad" about things I had let go years ago.

I'm sorry, you have to really want to see this article as biased against men to read it that way. This is an even handed article pointing out what a bad idea this is, and how it does nobody any good.
