Is there anything redeeming about being a creep? I mean a legitimate one, someone who makes people uncomfortable and doesn't give a shit about it.

I think you guys would be better off referring to women that show up at your house uninvited, text you 30 times with no response, and try to hit on you when you've turned them down as creeps. Let the word creep only be used for people that do crazy shit

No. Just start using the same word to describe the same behavior in women. So many times I have had women act creepy and my inner "chivalry" code kicks in and I don't want to hurt her feelings. Or look weak by pointing out that what she is doing is making me uncomfortable. Stoicism gets you nowhere. The large numbers of male suicides should tell you that.

Creep has been reclaimed. I call my friends and parents creeps, talk about facebook creeping on people, etc. It's laughed about the same way slut is. Already done. Just because a word has been reclaimed doesn't mean it can't still be used hurtfully in a different context.

2XC was having a discussion about what defines a slut a while back and I think they came up with a really solid definition. A slut is someone (usually a woman) that is having sex you personally disapprove of.

Along the same lines, I supppose you could define a creep as someone (usually a man) who expresses his sexuality in a way you personally disapprove of.

If you want to do something about the word, applying it to women would be far more effective.

I think you're going about this the wrong way. The word "creep" is used largely to describe men as dangerous or uncomfortable to be around- but what is dangerous isn't its meaning, but the double standard it's a part of. Only MEN can be creeps. Women can't be creeps at all! So the best way to better men's positions is to use it when women are being creepy. It removes the double standard and turns it back into a serious word. The connotation should not be removed, it should just be re-appropriated out of a misandric context.

The reason women have reclaimed "slut" is because nobody should be shamed for sexual behavior. Traditionally, it is a weapon used to control women's sexual appetites and behaviors. I see nothing wrong with reclaiming it in that fashion, as it removes the double-standard associated with the meaning while also removing the power it has to limit people's sexuality.

"Creep" is usually applied to men, but I think it more appropriately applies to women.

The Oxford Dictionary of English defines the verb:

[usu. with adverbial of direction] move slowly and carefully in order to avoid being heard or noticed: he crept downstairs, hardly making any noise | they were taught how to creep up on an enemy. • (of a thing) move very slowly and inexorably: the fog was creeping up from the marsh.

So the idea of something coming up on you without you noticing gets transformed into the noun:

► noun: Informal: a detestable person. • a person who behaves obsequiously in the hope of advancement.

So, since we are talking definitions, who's more likely to try to get to you without you noticing?

Ever hear of the phrase "under your radar"?
