Relational aggression involves manipulating social hierarchies through exclusion, gossip, reputation damage, visible displays of disgust in the target’s presence, and various forms of humiliation or degradation.

That's the girls way of bullying, and do they find it hilarious. I've always hated relational aggression because it's so insidious and childish.

It's the entire premise of manboobz and SRS. What they are doing, is quite literally practicing relational aggression. Most people know it better as just "Bitching" or "Girl bullying". The extent many women go through to bully others through these games is very worrying.

Oh, and do I have to say that this is potentially far more harmful in todays society than good old physical aggression?

How does Relational Aggression correlate to false rape accusations? While boys do certainly learn to participate in RA, it is primarily the province of girls. I've seen enough casual interactions of women amongst other women to understand intrinsically how this behavior manifests itself in adult females. Catty, bitchy, competitive, malicious and the list goes on. Go to a nightclub and grab a seat, order a drink and sit back and enjoy the show. Watch a beta guy go ask for a dance from a girl he's never met... Yeah, I think it's high time we examined the behavior of girls, which hitherto has been written off as 'development' and 'finding oneself' and even 'that's who girls are'. Is it?

Yes, the article was rhetorically obnoxious but it made a good point:

Hierarchical in-group/clique behavior and bullying is not a product of masculinity or "patriarchy." BOTH SEXES ENGAGE IN IT. They may use different methods but the aims and mindsets are generally comparable.

The only difference is that our culture actively legitimizes bullying of males ("It'll make a man out of him," "He's a man, he can take it," "Boys will be boys" etc) whilst it tries to ignore the fact that women can act in remarkably similar ways.

I asked a friend who's an academic to email one of the cited authors (not Diana Davison, the author of the AVfM article, but one of the authors of the paper that Davison repeatedly quotes and cites). I don't have permission to post the entire reply, but they basically said that:

the data was badly misrepresented,
relational aggression is not a "female" problem since boys and girls engage in it at similar levels,
the perception that it's a female form of aggression likely arises from the fact that girls rarely use physical aggression and so resort to relational aggression, while the reality is that boys tend to use both physical and relational aggression
there are a number of efforts being made to address the problem of relational aggression, including those by people who self-identify as feminists,
the AVfM article is an example of taking single quotes to make a political point, often ignoring counterpoints in the same article.

The author also provided references people can read that do not support the points in the AVfM article, specifically that relational aggression is a female problem and that no one is working to address these behaviors:

You want to know why they learned how to bully so young? Because little boys aren't hung up on gender matters before they come to that age. Little girls though they develop a bit faster on the business of being able to have babies. Boys catch on a bit later. In that time though girls growth is stifled .. boys keep growing and become more difficult to deal with. So girls kind of get introverted in that time. Suddenly the gig isn't the same. Suddenly they have to rely on a different form of persuasion.. more social but also before that girls are faster at social. Little girls learn language sooner use the potty sooner etc. Men have their effects later in life imo. : enter above article.
