I'm completely confused about this. I was entirely outraged until I read that over three times the amount of young men's facilities are going to be closed too. Part of me's glad that young people who don't deserve to be in prison won't be going there, and part of me's terrified of the results of genuinely psychotic young people who DO need to be in prison NOT being there.

You need to learn to read between the lines.

In two different spots this article ensures that the girls will be moved to training centers. There is no mention at all what is going to happen to the boys.

Does anyone actually believe the boys will just be let free? Will they go to training centers? Or maybe just shoved in with the adult population?

If you read the article it points out they've already closed down many places for boys too. Depending on what criteria they use to decide which boys still go to the fewer remaining jails and which ones get lighter sentencing similar to girls will be the issue of how or if even this is sexist.

It reminds me of rape. To point out the most heinous forms (I'm probably going to be attacked for creating hierarchies within rape) of rape may statistically happen the most to female's with male perps isn't sexist.

Saying 1 in 4 to 1 in 5 women will get raped while using criteria such as lighter forms of coercion/ alcohol as qualifying a situation as rape AND denying to men the same types of situations ie a women getting a guy drunk to sleep with him isn't rape while calling the opposite rape is quite a different story. Or not including forced envelopment as rape while treating woman's vagina's as if they are made of porcelain is incredible sexist.

This really depends on the new criteria's they use to sort who and why they go to prison if the majority of women wouldn't meet those new criteria it may not be that bad. I'm still curious what they'd do in the rare situations when what a girl does is downright atrocious though...

The biggest issue with removing spaces for under-18 male inmates means that they will be housed with fully adult males. These young boys will be passed around like party favors.

This is a good thing. I know it's sexist and bias but prison does nothing for children. We need to provide other resources and actually try to help children not to become repeat offenders. I don't care if it's to save money, this is progress, I might not have the answer, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that the answer is never prison for children. If you find it strange that I would be that certain, I'm also just as certain that the death penalty doesn't help children either, or crime for that matter.

So with that said, maybe eventually society will stop seeing men as dangerous monster and put them on an equal level as they see women. Women of all ages already have tons and tons of resources at their disposal, exponentially more than their male counterparts. I just wish society would get over vilifying men and protecting women at the expense of men and actually start to help people. Even little boys, children, are apparently not as deserving of help as their female counter parts, because penis apparently. It's sexist, it's dumb, but it's society and maybe sometime in the future young boys will have some sort of alternative to actually get help than to just rot in prison. Eventually society will stop looking at men and little boys like monsters, I just have to believe that.
