I don't comment here often I prefer not to as I'm not a man and I'm not here to start arguments or anything, just someone who is a bit of an antifeminist. I decided to give my thoughts on this because this topic is extremely important to me personally, as heterophobia is the very thing that drove me to antifeminism in the first place.

Heterophobia is very much a real thing and is one of the main things that drives women into submission to some insane feminist ideas. It's a very common belief that "Most women are bisexual" And women naturally will avoid doing and saying things that makes them an outcast. When I tell people "I could never imagine myself with a woman, I don't like the female body it makes me uncomfortable, I am not attracted to women in any way" BOTH men and women harass or otherwise look down upon me for saying that. They will respond to me with things like "How could you possibly not like women?? Women are gorgeous beautiful and perfect. Why do you hate other women??? LOL you must be a PRUDE"

Men do this because, well do I have to say it, women that like other women are seen as less of a threat and more attractive. Women do this because it gets them attention from men and it's how they think other women should behave.

The thing is this is harmful to both men and women in the long run. Generations of being told men are "gross and violent" and women are "beautiful and fertile" Has led many women to many women actually thinking this way and they don't really understand why, even if they are by nature attracted to men. So men are left feeling like society hates them and women are left lonely, sad, confused, with no sex drive. It's not fun for anyone.

My main reason for this rant is just to politely ask people here to let women enjoy what they enjoy. I get that it's uncomfortable to hear women talk about how sexy men are, how much they like muscles, how discriminating it feels when women like tall men. But the fact of the matter is that women are also human with attractions that are at times barbaric, and I think that's okay for both genders to do. I would never look down on a man for liking 20yr old blondes with big tits and I'd like to be looked at the same, at least on reddit. It truly is harmful for you to attack other men for being attractive or to attack women for enjoying that on this site or anywhere, and I see that happening often.

What's even funnier is that if you ask them about if, say, someone can be made gay/straight via, idk , "reeducation camps", they will most likely answer no. I believe it was called "doublethink" in a rather popular book name, something about numbers.

All in all, I believe the denial of "heterophobia" at all (one could argue that its less common that aforementioned homophobia or something, but they deny it in entirety) speaks volumes .

Even though I didn't know the words to describe it, I knew I was heterosexual at age 6. How? I had zero interest in pursuing boys and was easily put into a puppy love trance by girls. I didn't need to think it over. I wasn't at all confused. It wasn't something I was taught. Women startle and amaze me. They befuddle me. I've been obsessed with women for nearly my entire life.

To me, that's heterosexuality. Have I thought about doing it with a guy? Not while I was sober. I'm not interested in sex with men at all. I don't get erections from looking at men. I do however get them looking at women.

Every form of prejudice exists, the world is caught in a balancing scheme, and everyone wants space for themselves. I've experienced unnecessary intolerance from every kind of person imaginable. Hatred is a drug for most people, often for those who are averse to violence, and men handle majority of violent situations on this planet. So I've been confronted with everything imaginable and 99.99999% of it had nothing to do with me.

As a bi guy, I can say, the queer community is annoying.

To be a little more productive, there is this weird fetishism and repulsion of men's heterosexuality. I don't have the words yet to lay it out in full, but its there and weirdly uncomfortable to acknowledge when you go from the feminist side of the aile to the MRA side, and hear stories of straight dudes perfectly not homophobic become homophobic due to creepy and repulsive gay/bi men. There really is this quiet culture, maybe not so big, of thinking all straight men are really bi and just are trapped in ice from the homophobic culture. Something I'll shamefully confess I was once guilty of thinking. But idk, having the lived experienced of being outed, some guys are actually trapped in the ice and it does suck to see that, but making that reality into something were you think majority of dudes are like that is just...

Ah, the knee-jerk liberalism of the professoriate and the political ramblings of members of the AHA. The headline suggests that this could be helpful for understanding the job market, but it is based upon a single experience from fifteen years prior, combined with a whole load of typical Progressive screeching. Writing about a single incident about a job talk 15 years prior is not going to provide anyone with wider insights into hiring practice at Delaware or anywhere else. But, I guess, she wanted to virtue signal.

Scholars who are drawn to research areas because of personal experiences and struggles, should really not use that particular topic for a dissertation or another principal area of their research. Instead, it should be considered merely an academic hobby that they indulge from time to time. Academics are supposed to be suitably detached from our subject matter to maintain objectivity. However, in today's day and age, we can also add: this detachment prevents questions about one's work from being interpreted as the questioner launching a personal attack. The loss of this detachment by academic activists isn't healthy for any form of rational, learned discourse no matter the topic or field.

However, I am surprised to note that in the early-aughts the abuse of the suffix -phobia was already present in academia, assuming she hadn't misremembered the event by inserting a more modern pop cultural use of the suffix.

The elephant in the room, of course, is that I have made a career as a historian who critiques and historicizes the very notion of heterosexuality. Heterosexuality as we understand it today—a way of describing a particular kind of relationship between a man and a woman defining both the kinds of sex acts they engage in together and their identities across a spectrum of possible sexual identities—exists because of homophobia, and it is usually bound up with antifeminism. The term entered American vernacular speech in order to describe one kind of sexual relationship or identity as normal and preferable, in contrast to the “deviant” desires and identities, including bisexuality and homosexuality, that were disparaged and ostracized. As I explained in my first book—the book that drew from the dissertation I presented at my job talk—marriage counselors in the 1940s and 1950s wrote copiously about “heterosexual adjustment,” a process they thought was essential for all husbands and wives, who might not enter their marriages knowing how to be heterosexual. They had to learn it. Categories like heterosexuality appear descriptive but in fact contain deep and problematic presumptions about what is normal or deviant, privileged or marginalized.

Take note of all the modern buzzwords she uses in this paragraph. One important word she leaves out is tradition as well as any notions of reproduction or children. It also makes perfect sense for a marriage counselor to thoroughly probe the understanding that his/her clients have about gender roles in their own marriage and the wider society. That's just a therapist practicing due diligence. There's nothing malign about it. The clients went to the counselor of their own mutual choice and free will.

Basically, the majority rules. A key component of heterophobia is that. If the majority is heterosexual, that informs legislation. Hence the push to hammer away at heterosexuality.

I am woman and I am entirely into men. Also those victim complex wokeys just love to blame everything on the "patriarchy". Noone forced women to be straight. Homophobia only exists in the more Eastern countries. Heterophobia is pathetic vindictive attempt to hate on straight people, and there's no excuse for it. You didn't do anything wrong or homophobic. The guy who got triggered and said homophobic has a victim mentality and poor trigger management.

So you see where the hate for men comes from. We have deprived women of their sexual freedom.

Your conclusion doesn't follow from your premise. Women are the ones who choose to be in relationships with men, not men themselves. If something deprives women of their sexual freedom, it is monogamy though this too affects men, naturally.

I replied my intention was to point out the aversion some lesbians have against heterosexual men which I described as heterophobic.

Without being specific, this sounds like you made stuff up or worst. Lesbians will complain about some men trying to flirt with them even knowing they aren't into men or fetishing lesbian relationships as something for men to be entertained by or trying to involve themselves somehow in a lesbian relationship. That's not some heterophobia, they just want to be respected and left alone.

I am pretty sire that there is heterophobia just like racism against white people. Even though heterophobia will probably only exist in a very small minority, it's still real and an issue. These people probably don't believe in racism against white people even though it does exist. Best example is Japan. They hate everyone who is nor japanese
