There was a case in the U.K. about a young woman who was raped by a footballer. He was convicted the first time. But he was able to appeal it by... and brace yourself for this... discussing HER sexual history in court.

So they had men in court she’d had sex with saying she enjoyed having sex while on all fours and apparently asked for it harder.

This was supposedly relevant to another man r*ping this woman.

It was hard not to read about that and think, hey this could have easily been me.

Oh yes. And this footballer was cleared on appeal 🤮

And the shittiest part is that in TV/movies sexually agressive and adventurous women who go after what they want sexually, are glorified. But when young women try this IRL, they are devalued, punished and shamed. These are very harmful mixed signals for young girls, especially when we all know that sex is not discussed in most families. So where will they learn? These mixed signals set them up for pain, suffering and make them vulnerable.

Tbh I’m one of apparently few on Reddit who doesn’t hate Kim K, I’ve always thought it was the biggest boss move to take the sex tape scandal and completely switch the narrative and turn her brand into a billion dollar empire. But I’m also very aware that was a rare case and most women indeed do end up paying the price while the low life men involved get off scot free

I didn't really appreciate Monica Lewinsky being tacked onto the #MeToo bandwagon at its height, partly because she refuses to explicitly call Clinton an abuser. Furthermore, she came out of total obscurity to say she was being slut-shamed when, in fact, no one had been talking about her at all for quite awhile.

I don't think she's canny enough to figure out the press was using her as pozzy choicey-choice ballast to muddy up #MeToo.

It's an actual tactic. Every time a grassroots movement starts making real waves, the media starts promoting clowns in association with the cause. This happens with eco causes a lot. One minute it's a serious researcher on the news discussing their revolutionary new discovery of how pesticide x causes tumors the size of rats in rats and kicking the shit out of the arguments of some agro industry pundit. The next minute, the news will feature a goofy celeb or consumer advocate who lives in a tree house and believes bees have souls trying to argue the same points and getting trounced by the same industry pundit. Sucks the gravitas right out.

Sort of like Bruce Willis in Sixth Sense not knowing he was dead, clowns don't know they're clowns and don't recognize when they're being used to delegitimize important movements.
