I want a happy life and not have someone trying to fight me all the time in the future. I am about to separate from my gf and trying to determine how much custody do i want.

I want my child to love me in the future and know i love her. I want her to do well and not have a rough life and bad relationship. I don’t want my baby to learn my gf and her mothers personality, character, anxiousness, temper, and social skills. I am worried about the saying “people don’t change” so i don’t want my child to learn it now. If i get every other weekend, my child will be exposed more often to the things I don’t like. The negative to this is i can probably squeeze in maybe 2hrs with her daily and make things much harder. My gf mom is already at home doing nothing, willing and able to take care of the baby. Makes me wonder if i am making problems out of nothing. If I take our child 50% of the time our baby will either have to stay with a friend/family’s place for baby sitting or at a daycare. Gf’s mother got hospitalized from covid before she was vaccinated so I understand why they dont want our kid to stay with anyone aside the 3 of us. I feel like I’m directly increasing the chances of covid for everyone by doing this.

She said in the past if we ever breakup she wants 100% custody and i can only have supervised outside activities until our kid is age 5, current 2 year old. She never let me walk our kid outside alone, i tried to convince her a few times but it wasn’t worth the chaos. I know she won’t be happy if i get every other weekend but she will definitely be sad/angry/resentful if i take 50% of the child and i don’t want her to feel that way towards me because we got to work together in the future for at least 16 more years.

If I get every other weekend I have a feeling it will be much harder for her to take my decisions or input in future regarding the baby. She will say i dont even take care of the baby etc. in the past she did similar stuff. Her and her mom makes decisions in front of me and other times when i tell them no there is a fight. They are starting to give in more to what i say but still one-sided.

Girlfriend is not suited to be a mother tbh she tells her mom to change the diaper, appoints me or her mom to do to do things when we are literally sitting next to each other, spends less than an hr playing with the baby daily even on weekend unless i drag her out to go for a 30 min walk, constantly on social media, use the phone while trying to interact with the baby, her mom cooks and cleans for her most of the time, her mom started taking care of her pets too. She sleeps at midnight workdays, non-workdays 1-2 am and wakes up at 10-11 am after the baby is fed and already playing with me.

I have a consultation with an attorney tomorrow to see if i can possibly do every other weekend for a few months until covid dies down or postpone getting the 50%. This may make it more difficult to get 50% if its not right away.

What would you do? Do i really want 50/50 custody? how would you do this more amicably or without lawyers because i don’t want it to be that extreme. I want a future where we can be friends or friendly terms. I don’t want to start any grudges, resentment, waiting for any small mistake or baby injuries and then have her blow up, or possibly catch covid.

TLDR- have a controlling gf and gf mom who has bad characteristics. I don’t want the grandma who is high risk to potentially catch covid because i got 50/50 custody and the kid gets it from daycare. Question how to do this amicably and possibly without lawyers?
