Gotta love these news stories where they find the few outliers — the older women with some kind of ailments who "need" alimony to survive. But yet we're in the midst of a literal suicide epidemic and public health crisis among men and no one bats an eye.

What about the men who have killed themselves because of parental alienation and child support arrears that keep them indebted for the rest of their lives? What about the men who have lost hope and become homeless because everything they had was taken by their greedy and selfish ex-wife?

One thing I've learned as I've gotten older is that society places no real value on a man's life. The only value men have is working to provide and pay bills and debts to other people. You can't make anyone care or respect you. It's dehumanizing — but I guess that's the point.

So, just because a man married them and it didn't work out she feels justified in him paying her alimony for the rest of his / her life?
If Alimony were gender neutral and women had to pay permanent alimony to their ex husbands i'm sure this bill would have been pushed through and ratified a decade ago..

I also don't agree with the concept that the Alimony amount should be set to the point where the ex wife can enjoy the standard of living she had while married.
Why does she get to continue with the status quo while the man's standard of living drops to impoverished or below? living off instant noodles or other cheap / unhealthy food and in a dirty / rundown apartment while the ex-wife keeps the house they had during the marriage.

What is the line Feminists often use in these situations?

When I worked in mental health I had a few male clients who were financially destroyed because of alimony and child support. Their ex-wives were living in their house with their new lovers and they had no incentive to get married because the alimony payments were extra income for them to go on vacations and purchase items. Meanwhile, one of the guys was living out of his truck.

And, then people wonder why young men, after seeing this happen to their fathers, male relatives, neighbors, friends’ fathers, etc. are reluctant to get married. Nobody should ever enter into a contract where one party benefits from breaking it.
