I like 5 years as a good age gap. When the guy is a little bit older w more life experience it’s easier for the woman to naturally be more respectful. Plus he’ll be at a slightly more mature age for starting a family when she is ready. But longer than that and they start to be from different generations and the woman can start to be too immature for him.

It depends what age YOU are. When I was 20, I don’t know if I would have even ran in the same circles as someone older than 26, and I was probably too dumb to keep my wits about me when dating someone with significantly more experience than me. Now, if I had to start all over again and be single, I think I would actively shoot for someone 5-10 years older, because I myself am older and more capable of knowing what’s healthy and what’s not.

My actual partner is only 6 months older, and he’s fantastic! Most people guess that he is ~5 years older than he is, partially because of his RBF 😂

I think it's situational and depends on your own ages. Usually, the older you are, the bigger the age gap can be without causing significant issues.

22 and 26 is absolutely fine IMO and I don't think your boyfriend is weird about dating college girls as your friends have said. He was probably in college himself just two or three years ago.

There isn't really a big cognitive difference between you two. Even if there is some, it's benefitial for you as a couple, as he is wiser and more mature but just enough for you to feel as you can rely on him.

There is a point where the cognitive development difference gets big enough for the older partner to be able to easily manipulate the younger one and take advantage of their yet undeveloped foreseeing, inability to read the room and other important skills that develop with age. That's where I draw the line.

Husband is 10 days older than I, modulo timezones, and I feel we're a good match. My younger sister is married to a man 5 years her elder -- seem fine. His sister is married to a man 2 years younger -- also seem fine with one kid.

It really depends on the couple and the ages. In my personal experience, 7 years was too much older for me, 8 years was too disconnected, 2 years the guy could have been more mature, 4 years just right.

I was involved with a woman 24 years younger. She had a 6yr old, she wasn't naive or inexperienced. She'd already been engaged twice, was a career woman. She was such a bright and amazing personality. I learned so much from her. But she had so much life ahead of her, she had different drives and goals. I could keep up with the sex and we hiked and sky-dived and did things. Ultimately, she cheated on me with a man slightly younger than herself, and we were done.

She was at the beginning of her life's journey with so many options. She realized that settling down with me into a cozy, middle-aged lifestyle wasn't for her. When she tried to have it both ways, she got caught, and we ended it. I was getting more from the relationship than she was, for sure.

I've never been attracted to someone not my age, every partner has been between 2 years younger and 2 older. I like being in the same stages of life.

I personally would like it. Of course relationships should be equal in power dynamic - but I, and I’m sure many other girls, do like when the man can take on a more nurturing and guiding role, like a “protector” (this is a bad explanation but I hope it’s understandable).

I’m in a larger age gap relationship than I ever thought (he’s 13 years older) and I love it. I always casually dated older, and preferred a 5-8 year gap for serious relationships. I never found younger men attractive, but I assume that’s because men in their early twenties typically are not the best catch hahaha.

Once I met my partner, everything was so aligned/amazing the age gap was not a worry. I seek out healthy relationships with men, and don’t let age stand in the way.
