The statistics says it is but I feel there may be a caveat to it. In the statistic it labels “children” to be anyone age 1-19. That would include the “children” between the age of 14-19 that may be involved in gangs. While it does still mean they are dying by guns it suggests this like mass shootings in schools have reached a point that gun violence is killing more actual children then the real leading cause, which would be motor vehicle accidents.

I would very much like to see a graph where they lay out the deaths by age and then another by region/ location. There are many cities where gangs run rampant and the youth are encouraged to join by family and friends in bad parts of town. Some gangs even require you to kill someone just to join, though that is admittedly rare. I feel the inordinate amount of gun violence in inner city gangs skews the data in a way that scares parents who won’t ever have to deal with gangs.
