Found out in May that my wife was hiding $31,000+ in debt for about 7 years. Half of our marriage. After weeks of her lying about it and having to dig into financial statements to try to figure out what happened I told her I wanted a divorce. Moved out in June.

We dont have much as far as assets. But in the final agreement she got about three times the value of stuff compared to me. Most notably a car worth around $6,000. Mine is technically worth nothing based on blue book.

I was fine with it because she will have the two kids full time. I agreed to the standard custody and child support payments because I work nights and I know they will be spending a lot more time with me than just every other weekend. Also agreed to let her have the child tax return credits every year.

She has a retirement account with like $12-14,000. I have basically nothing. She had about 70,000 in student loans. I have about $27,000. She makes about $50k annually vs. my $70,000. I took on a couple thousand in credit card debt to move out and pay for the lawyer to file amicably. We agreed to keep our debts separate.

Because I moved out of the house she was able to get rid of the $30,000 through bankruptcy. And she just had all of her student loans forgiven. Then got a $14,000 refund check for them on top of that. We were together when both of us went to college and paying on the student loans for more than ten years.

She doesnt want the divorce and is now holding the finances over my head to try to get us back together. Im just waiting on courts to make the agreement weve already signed official. Should I blow up the deal to try to get more of the assets?

My lawyer doesnt want to do a non amicable divorce involving kids. And is charging less than $3,000 to take care of it. I would have to find someone else and do the legal battle. Im sure the cost would be more than what I would gain. But maybe I would end up with more favorable terms overall.
