If your mortgage rate is under 5% that would be foolish. You’re literally profiting off inflation on what debt you have.

Very similar situation for myself. 43, no children, own my home with similar figures. I plan on holding on to mine and look for opportunities elsewhere. You're not in danger of loosing any money and imagine the revenue it can produce when you pay it off and use it as an asset. I will admit that it's a little big for one person but the situation could be a lot worse off. Good luck.

It is not a good market for sellers now and that may get worse or the next year or so. As a result probably less new homes will be built. On the other hand rents will rise during this same period. If your home is more space than you need then renting it out might be a thing to consider. If it generates cash flow it can offset you own rent and it you hold on to your home for the long term you should have a great investment property.

If you can sell now, i would. I'm in Texas and seeing a lot of homes sitting on the market and lowering list prices. This was unheard of a few months ago. 2024 is going to suck IMO, especially the housing market. I'd sell now and pay cash for something smaller. I'd avoid vacation homes and rentals, as i think people are starting to feel the impacts of inflation, high mortgage rates, etc. Ideally, you'd sell now....get an apartment for 6-12 months, then buy when home prices are low in 2024/25. Stock should be low as well. It's been a nice ride, but the economy will dip.
