Because they describe the kind of men that most women want, but almost no woman can find in real life. When women cannot find men that satisfy their emotional needs in real life, they seek romance novels to read about the men that they like, fall in love with them, and experience the emotions they want to feel.

Many women become addicted to the emotions that romance novels make them feel. I was one of them, between the ages of 16 and 18. I became addicted to romance novels. I felt in love with the men in them. I stopped caring about men in real life because none of them could make me feel what the men in romance books made me feel. I worked on my addiction and stopped reading romance books when I was 19, but men in real life still cannot offer me the same level of emotional satisfaction that romance books gave me.

Romance novels often trigger in women what porn triggers in men.

Im 21F and don’t get very turned on by porn but I definitely get turned on by those books.

Also, both porn and romance novels portray unrealistic things which may ruin sex/love for its consumer.

Because it's just an in depth representation of hot sex in the form of literature. You use your imagination to create the scenarios in your mind. That makes it kind of better than watching some girl getting pounded and acting like she's enjoying it... I guess that it activates your libido better. Of course I'm just guessing, but that's how I view it myself when I read about sex in books

I’m my experience a lot of fanfics have smut, lemons, or as we say in the real world, sex. Porn is glorified sex that is more often times than not, unrealistic. The same can be said for stories. We see the mental image as we’re reading and it’s usually rose-colored and semi-realistic. So porn. With actual plot.

Men use love to get sex, women use sex to get love. Romance novels literally trigger the same hormones and endorphins in women that men get activated by watching porn. They are self aware enough to understand in the real world they are incapable of loving men for who they are over what they have to offer, so the novels give them a nice break from reality and let them silumate experiencing what the internet has murdered in real life.

A key part of arousal for many women (and men too!) is feeling desired, for women I believe it matters more that the desire is earned and specific to them. That their man feels a desire that couldn't be had for just anyone.

Lots of women watch porn. Id say the majority. They may be more likely to not shout it from the hilltops.

Also, some guys like romance novels with some smut in there.

If you look at these books they have quite a bit of eroticism in them.

So therefore, if you create a fantasy where you are somewhat immersed and then the chatacters you enjoy start boning it's great.
