Yup, the better I've felt about myself and the more attention I get from girls, the more I've realised other guys try and bring me down.
It's an intimidation thing. Take it as a compliment. If you can laugh off their attempts to belittle you, you'll leave them feeling even more pissed/jealous.
The worst possible thing to do is demonstrate a fragile ego and have an overly aggressive response to an 'insult'. That's how the feel like they've 'won'.
[–]atticusishe 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Seriously dude it’s annoying; how do you respond to something like that
[–]thethrowowoy 31 points32 points33 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Passive sarcasm is my best weapon.
I sometimes agree with them in the most nonchalant way, so it plays into them feeling like they've 'won' but they instantly realise I'm not taking them seriously.
A recent example for me was a guy asking me how much I lift. I was wearing a top that fitted my arms pretty well. Instantly, when I told him what I was pushing, he told me he does 1.5x that... I responded with "yeah I can tell". Knowing that he had brought this all up because he was staring at my arms (post gym, so pretty pumped), his projection backfired. Although my words sounded complimentary, I could see the cogs in his head turning trying to work out if I was being serious. He was comparing us against each other because of his own insecurities.
It's like turning the mirror back onto them. 90% of shitty comments are down to insecurity and projection. It's easy to expose that if you realise that before letting it hurt your ego.

This.
One of my most favourite intersection (not the sjw kind dw) is that the concept of "agree&lify" used to pass shit-tests from girls can be used in social interactions as well. Example:
"You gotta work on those arms. How much do you lift br0?" (Trying to compare, challenge&compete)
"Oh, I hit two kilograms today. If I keep up the good work, I can start using the pink dumbbells for my workouts soon" (Deflecting the challenge)
Take the initial assessment and contrast it with something that is obviously not true. People watching will realize you are not entering into the dick-measuring contest, and the modesty/self-ridicule is an indication it is because you don't have to. If the dude is insistent on getting an answer, you can brush it off further:
("Why, do you need a spotter?") -->(Mocking)
"I only tell that number to my pops and when I am desperate trying to impress girls" -->(Subtly mocking him for trying to compare dicks)
People listening in on the interaction will notice him being weird, and you being funny in a non-confronting manner. Further escalation/asking only makes the other dude seem like a jackass. You win, they lose.
I only get occasional attention from girls and am not very buff, but I hope this helps regardless (now go get that bread)

Solid advice.
The only difficulty is keeping up that level of calmness, even when you just feel like punching the guy in between the eyes haha
[–]Narcan9 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Either straight up ignore them. Or, ride it and have fun. Self-depreciating humor. Show that you can take it, joke with them, don't give a fuck, and it disarms all power in their negativity.
PLUS, a major knock that women give to guys who are higher tier is that they are arrogant or too into themselves. By going the low-key humble route you will dispel a top concern from the women.

I had a friend who would try to call me out and put me down in front of people. It was always when I was shining, feeling good about myself and the place I was at, etc. I would always just immediately spit back at him and say something like “yo what the fuck are you doing? Why you gotta be acting like that in front of all these people?” Etc.
It seems like some guys constantly try to be ‘the biggest man’ in the room, and when there’s another ‘threatening presence’, they lash out. Usually it’s nothing personal.
[–]atticusishe 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
See I feel like that kind of response makes you feel like you have a fragile ego
[–]quantumactual 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yeah but if you don’t care then it doesn’t matter. I don’t care how anyone sees me. Maybe it wasn’t the best way to respond to the situation, but it’s what I immediately went for and it always worked (because it has happened multiple times).
I’m not an asshole about it, I just call him out on his shit. Like why are you doing that to a homie?
[–]atticusishe 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Seriously your “homies” throw you under the bus when they get a chance
[–]quantumactual 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ve only had one friend do that shit. Must’ve been feeling some sort of superiority complex until I put him back in his place.
[–]bean_addict 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I too ave a "friend" like that. When we are alone, it's all chill. When there are new people around where the social structure is not yet established, he calls me out on the most stupid, unnecessary shit. Took a while to learn how to hanfle this
[–]quantumactual 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yup, that’s exactly what my experience was. I wonder if that’s a form of narcissism.
[–]bean_addict 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
With him, I think it is grounded in insecurity, which has led him to overcompensate in attempt to be more 'alpha'
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If they mess with you they probably like you or think you can take it. Even if they are straight up hating it’s a good sign that they are jealous.
Practice being witty and don’t let their stupid comments get to you.

bro theirs competition everywhere and haters and people that will eye ball the hell of the girl u are with out of jealously
[–]Shintaigou 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I learned one thing, if a guy insults you it means he likes you.
[–]Darknissxxx 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If they do this when you’re around girls or talking to one, act like they aren’t there and maintain focus on the girl. It will make you look better and it’ll piss of the guy
[–]justrollingbye 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Take it as a compliment. Haters put others down to make themselves feel better about their insecurities. It’s usually because you got something that they don’t have. There were some good tips on here how to handle those situations. Either Ignore, go along with a witty respond or self-depreciating humor. Don’t let it get to you.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah happens to me, I’m a muscular guy and also pretty and I get it all the time. I just ignore them and keep myself composed and that seems to work pretty well. Shows you don’t let other men control your emotions/worth and shows you don’t give your attention to toxic/negative people.
[–]ORIONFULL23 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
People resent other people's success. They do that cause its an easy way to justify their weaknesses, indiscipline and life's choice and this feeling is kinda common, I read somewhere that when something bad happen to rich people, it cause some sorf of satisfaction in people who are less successful.
So dont let it affect you, there will be always people who aren't happy with your success.
[–]gangweedsavedme 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’d say turn it into a battle of wits, but context matters. Either they do it out of insecurity or they’re testing you to see how you handle it/ your reaction.
[–]hulk_hogans_nutsweat 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We’ve all known that guy at some point, and maybe even been one ourselves. These types don’t bother you if you’re out competing them in the gym or in a sport, but if you’re getting more female attention then suddenly they start getting loud and obnoxious. They’re usually insecure for one reason or another. Ignore them.
[–]Electric_kundalini 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s just jealousy. My friend always gets jealous when I get an ounce of attention from Women. He starts acting up in front of them it’s really cringe.
[–]Legitimate-Lies 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, while they’re busy being huge pussies, I fuck their bitch
[–]dave_spontani 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is an intersection (no, not the sjw kind) that I love
Some other comments mentioned it already, deal with it in a humerous manner. A friend once told me about the concept of "Agree&lify" to pass shit-tests from women. The same concept can be used when someone is trying to give you flak:
Him: "How much do you lift br0?" (Trying to compare&compete)
You: "Oh, barely got two kilograms done today. If I'm lucky, I can switch to the pink dumbbells im half a year if I keep up the good work" (Deflecting with funny answer)
Refuse to take that part of the conversation seriously by deflecting their comment with something that obviously does not match the truth. If someone insists on an answer, people will notice that they are being weird and note it down in their head that they are looking for trouble ---> You win, they lose
Not a very buff guy and I only very occasionally get looks from girls but I hope this helps

When you put your best foot forward as a star player, guys and girls will shit test you. Gotta have the stones to make it through that to wear the crown.
