Hey all. I went to a bar for the first time last night. We got there and not much was going on, this was 10:30. Pretty soon the place was absolutely packed, I couldn't move at times. The music was loud and bad. Overall I was terribly uncomfortable.

Eventually however, I got sick of being 'that guy' just sitting in the corner. I approached two girls near me. They were very nice. However, I couldn't a) hear most of what they said and b) they couldn't hear anything I said.

Even when I leaned in very close I still couldn't yell loud enough. It was incredibly frustrating to be honest.

I'm not entirely sure if there is anything I could do to make my voice louder...? Or is there a way to circumnavigate this issue? I'm really turned off from the bar scene already.

Mostly just wanted to tell everyone that I DID go out and I DID approach two girls. Little steps, but steps nonetheless.

Thanks everyone on this subreddit!

Edit: Ha, I do know the difference between a bar and a club. The music was just incredibly loud. And yes, I have less than stellar hearing.
