I just noticed this post from 2-3 weeks ago:

Advice for Gay Pickup Artists

Which was downvoted to zero (8+/8-) when I found it.

I know 99 percent of us are straight.

But that's exactly the point. The point of this subreddit is to learn about seduction, and we should be exchanging ideas from a diverse group of people – mostly straight men, sure, but also including straight women, queer women, and queer men. Even if the overall point for most of us is to understand how to attract women.

This is why I reflexively upvote every female post/comment I see, unless they're saying something clearly wrong. (Edit: which they definitely sometimes do, see frogma's comment.)

And this is why Tofu blew a gasket when some sedditors were unfriendly to a female contributor a month ago.

Seriously, downvotes should be reserved for inappropriate posts (i.e. sidebar violations) and the occasional poorly-written or wall-of-text FR if you're in a grumpy mood. Not well-written stuff by a new contributor that could have lots of interesting insight to share.

PS: I might as well support my case with the following "wow-TIL" exchange from that thread. Read this and understand it and tell me this isn't someone we want to encourage as a contributor here.

Ignorant question from a straight guy...

How hard is it really to get play as a gay guy? Obviously the cultural stereotype is that you guys bone like rabbits, but even putting that aside, I feel like I get guys hitting on me all the time and I'm not making any attempt whatsoever or moving in those circles.

Are PUA skills really necessary?

Great question!

Sure, getting laid is easy. Finding someone who isn't a total slut who will have sex with you can be.

Many guys are willing to sleep with anything that moves. That is the most publicly visible portion of the community. A large percentage (I've seen it estimated as high as 50%) rarely have sex. When you average it out, gay guys have just as few sexual partners as straight men.

Pickup technique is helpful for those who want to get with guys who won't normally sleep around. It's also great for getting guys who are "out of your league".

PUA skills also help deal with rejection, which is crucial for those of us who don't go for flamboyant guys. To put it bluntly, they're asking you because it's really hard to find guys who don't sparkle that like it in the butt. It's a real numbers game especially if you set stereotypes aside. Gaydar is a bunch of mythical bullshit. There's no good way to tell a straight man from a gay man from a bi man unless you see them actively with someone else.
