Sometimes it's a major turn off though.. If you happen to say the wrong name

I try to say people's names a few times after I meet them so I can increase the chances of me not forgetting.
I tried doing that once, then 10 seconds later totally forgot her name.

Forgot the name of the girl I met on Wednesday night... Needless to say, introducing her to my friends was awkward. I finally found it out when she put her name in my phone.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What?! That's the best situation. You turn to the girl and say 'this is my friend (whatever his name is)'
Then she'll introduce herself to your friend and now you have her name again. I'll sometimes introduce people for this sole reason.
[–]ilikeCRUNCHYturtles 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well then you wouldn't be saying their name.
[–]synapticimpact 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've done this over the phone while on a business trip. What I was thinking at the time was "man it would suck if I said somebody else's name instead of hers."
Fuck you, brain.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But that's not her name

Indeed, works especially well when you first meet someone and drop their name throughout the conversation, instant rapport building. Always best to try not to overdo it though as you'll come across rather 'salesy'.

that was on friends

Goes into great detail in "How to Win Friends and Influence People". All people love it, not just girls.

I'm a lady, most people call me Gabby. It drives me wild when a guy calls me Gabriella. Call me Gabrielle, and you die.

This is also acceptable.

I always wondered if girls like this. I make it a point to call a girl by her full first name if it's commonly shortened in some way like yours. But only if I'm attracted to them.
Some hate it Because it remind them of getting yelled at by their parents (multiple girls have scolded me for using their actual first name as opposed to a shortened version.

I met a Hispanic chick in Panama City this year named Gabriella/Gaby. I LOVE that Latino pronunciation.

I spell my name with one B most of the time. I only recently picked up the second B.

From experience with a girl named gabby I can confirm this one
[–]rolldadice 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Everyones favorite word is their own name.
[–][deleted] 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
[–]synapticimpact 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, it's pretty universal.
[–]locotx 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No kidding. Guess what, it works at networkers too, need to land that big deal, hey . .remember the person's actual name. Shocking
[–]dublinclontarf 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Soooo, looking at them, saying their name over and over, getting more sultry in pronounciation and grinning?
[–]NaturalAFC 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, don't grin. Start getting more and more serious and speed up.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed they do. I've been meaning to make this post for awhile now. I'm glad others also have found this out to confirm my ideas.
[–]Wiskie 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Everyone's favorite word to hear spoken is their name. Cocktail party effect, affirmation and all that...
My name's pretty common though, so it's sorta worn off on me. Can't watch the news or read the paper without hearing/seeing my name.

John?!

[–]porpa 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just make sure you pronounce it right. I notice someone who takes the time to learn the correct pronunciation of my name. It makes a huge difference
[–]Quixotic7 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Had to post this
[–]Scrub_Life 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I absolutely agree! This is one of the few seduction tips I was actually able to figure out myself. I noticed I felt a lot better when a girl would say my name whether it be in a text or convo.
You got laid with your girlfriend? You must be some kind of sorcerer.
[–]Jasper_Xa 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wish my wife would say my name. She's got this issue with that because of her fucked up childhood with her drunk father that she called by his first name. Clusterfuck...but we'been married 21 years & it's the second marriage for us both.
People. People love it when you say their name. And if you think that's magic, you should read How To Win Friends and Influence People
[–]manirw 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I personally HATE when my boyfriend calls me by my name. We have nicknames for each other and if one calls the other by the name is because something is very wrong. And to other people, well, there is no effect at all when some random person says my name.
[–]fragglemook 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A poor post. This is not seduction material. This is self help. A chapter in Dale Carnegie's "How to win friends and influence people" should be all one ever has to read on the subject.
Relying on gimmicks like this does nothing in relation to the mating ritual.
[–]uberafc 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Seriously why is garbage like this getting up voted. I'm all for user contributions but shit like this shouldn't be getting blindly up voted. There isn't much of value here, and in fact this only works because your "GIRLFRIEND" already likes you.
It's great to remember the girls name but don't fucking over do it. This also isn't some seduction technique. Take this sort of shit to r/socialskills, but wait it wouldn't get blindly upvoted there.
[–]jakeplease31 -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yikes, someone's seductive skills haven't been working lately! Lol but hey it turns my lady on and it got me laid, so I thought I'd share here. Thanks for the advice though. Like I said I'm pretty new.
[–]uberafc 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its all good man. My gripe wasn't really directed at you just that Seddit has really had a lot of bad posts recently. Good luck on your journey and hopefully your other contributions are better and hopefully seddit in general gets better.
