If you look at his movements, he's not doing anything particularly difficult or precise. He's simply enjoying himself, not giving a shit if his steps may be slightly off and placing lots of attention on his upper body and waist. Just move with the beat of the music and when dancing with a girl lead her into fun positions.

As you can see, he's moving each chick according to the beat of the song. Making sure to touch their bodies the whole time while doing so (within the realm of appropriateness of course). It helps that this guy has experience with dancing Bachata and his steps are mostly spot on but the main point is to lead and have fun.

Actually I have a lot of experience in this field. So let me relate what I've learned.

First I will use a throw away account because I have a strict "Lurker only" policy when it comes to Reddit and most of the internet but I digress.

Starting off with what some people say:

I agree. But this is easy. If you go anywhere that's half descent and popular among under 30 people in any moderatly big city, then the ratio will almost always be 1 guy for every 2 girls. Most girls will dance but many guys will NOT dance at all. So the ratio on the actual dance floor might easily be 1:4 unless you go to a place that caters heavily to semi-pro/pro dancers like salsa clubs. You should generally not be going to this places if you are not comfortable as a dancer anyways (just in the same way you shouldn't go to a ski resort if you don't like to ski. Cost of opportunity if you will).

Actually if you look closely at his movements you should realize a variety of moderately difficult stuff is going on. (I will explain in a bit).

If you are 15 year old and you are at a party in some guy's basement or a school dance then, then yes, be confident and fun and that should carry you most of the way. But once you go clubbing (specially in countries that are more "dance oriented" than the United States) some actual skill is required.

Most acquire this sets of skills by clubbing and dancing. In countries like the U.S people dance less than in Latin American countries for example, so if you go to a place like Brasil or Panama or Costa Rica and you are American (or from a cold European country) you will be expected to be a bad dancer. No matter how good looking you are. But this can be good because it means expectations are low and any minor sign of improvement will be rewarded (but that is a topic for another discussion).

So what is this guy doing: 1. Head movement (easy but tricky) 2. Chest movement (easy) 3. Arm movement (moderately difficult) 4. Hip movement/twisting (difficult) 5. Foot work (easy but tricky)

If you look closely you will notice he is doing all this 5 things simultaneously WHILE looking at the girl and making eye contact and thinking what he should do next.

So this requires you to be both comfortable with your dancing skills and experienced enough so you can concentrate on your game and not on your feet.

For example try to do two different things at the same time. Even if they are very very simple things you can easily get confused. This is what happens with dancing.

The trick to dancing is NOT JUST moving with the music, but being able to move various part of your body in sync to the music but semi-independently from the others in a common and harmonious pattern.

This because dance is suppose to showcase to a potential partner that you are a healthy grown up male who knows how to move. Where I live girls say that if a Guy cant dance right he cant fuck right.

Sounds hard? Well it is and it isn't. Its just like driving shift gear. At first you will struggle to change gears and get started while minding the road and other drivers, but a little practice makes this coordinated movements automatic in such a way that you stop worrying about what you are doing and start worrying about what others are doing.

So If you want to dance and know nothing follow this steps:

Go to dance classes. No exceptions. I recommend any tropical dancing classes because they stress hip movement.
Practice at home. In front of a mirror. Video tape yourself. This will make you cringe but will also show you what your doing right and wrong.
Listen to music. A lot. Develop musical sense. All songs are divided into musical "words". A musical word has 8 beats, but you can break it up in 4 beats. All dancing is 1,2,3,4. So listen to songs and try to count with them until you feel fairly confident that you can follow the beat. If you cant maybe you are beat "deaf". You can look it up in the internet. 4.Go dancing with female friends if possible. Dancing is a goal in and on itself. You must forget about the game to become a good dancer because the truly good dancers LIKE to dance.
Don't obsess with foot movemnt. Upper body movement is more important. That being said a big mistake most people do when dancing is staying still in a single place. But be sure you know how to move your chest and hips before you bother too much about foot work. Just make sure to move around, turn around, dont be stationary, dont focus on just moving your feet but actually moving around.
Watch your arms. This is the hardest part to some. If you keep you arms down in your pockets or just hanging then you wont give off the impression of being a good dancer (unless you are dancing in a particular style.
Focus more on the Basics of dancing before you worry to much about style. BUT if you learn a Style of dancing (like salsa) what you learn will translate into club dancing. Just dont try to dance salsa to electronic music unless you have a good idea of what are you doing. 8.RELAX! lol. If you can then you are probably doing things alright. If not dont beat yourself over it. Focusing of having fun first.

So with all of this on mind, if you want to dance for dancing sake or if you want to make it part of your game then always remember that the best way to be a truly great dancer is to love dancing and music. If you like to dance but don't find it to be that important then just have fun and approach girls how you best prefer.

Enjoy yourself. Approaching: get eye contact from her and start to dance with her, start escalating. That's it. You don't need to be a great dancer, being able to move to the rhythm is enough. And here are some cool specific moves you can use:

Observe the group and their mannerisms. If they have been drinking a little it may help ease the tension. Go in there actually dancing and having fun. That positive energy radiates to someone.

do this all the time when i go out. This isnt very hard if you have any rhythm. Just move to the beat throw in some twirls. ill sometimes twerk/grind on them to make them giggle. Lead and stay in rhythm.

He just has some basic traditional dance moves (spin the girl) and the comfort to be able to kind of wing it. Using the moves when he can, not trying to force anything. Flowing with the music. Also.. leading.

Go find a basic salsa lesson. Classes are everywhere. Also be willing to feel that you look like an idiot while dancing. You won't actually look like an idiot. You'll look like that guy.

It's eeeasy. Just learn some Modern Jive or some Zouk (or both) and it can give a basic idea of a beginner lady (someone who has never danced before) and how she moves. In Modern Jive and West Coast Swing, you learn which foot the lady is standing on so you can position her the way you want her to go.

It's actually very easy. Just learn the basics of some dance styles imo.

Throw on some beats and practice, practice, practice in front of a floor-length mirror. Practice until every gesture, bounce, step, head nod you make is a natural, smooth flow and you know exactly what you look like at every moment. Be sober, do not have a drink in your hand, and eye fuck the shit out of your partner. There's nothing sexy about half-assed shuffling on the dance floor, cup in-hand, and looking bored and/or distracted.

Keep it simple at the start. Step 1. Be on beat and have a few moves to tease her. Step 2. Get her attention. Step 3. Find out if she's digging you by being close, let her catch your scent then back away, let her body talk to you especially on beat.... If she's digging you then stay for another dance or step away and have some convo.

Well while this guy is a decent dancer, i hate to break it to you but this movie seems to be staged, from what i had seen this La Ruina guy is notorious for hiring models to pose as random girls. I'm not saying a guy cannot pick up girls on the dance floor but it just isn't as smooth as shown here.
