Nothing wrong. You should talk to everyone. Young, old, fat, thin, doesn't matter. Maybe 1% of encounters will feel good and you'll feel like getting a number or something. Just because a girl is hot doesn't mean you'll hit it off with her.

Approaching is like 90% of the battle for most guys. Just being able to walk up and say "hi" is something that a ton of guys struggle with.

You should be focused on goals, not results. Setting the goal to approach say one woman every day is realistic. Having the goal of closing one girl a day is not, because you have no control over the outcome.

This is about all I'm comfortable with right now. I haven't figured out how to go from chatting to asking her out. I have no problem with small talk, I just don't know how to jump from casual conversation to flirting to asking for a phone number.

Of course there is - I don't understand the run of questions of late they seem to be asking questions that are just... well insanely trivial. I appreciate that from "inside the storm" the perspective is a bit different and everyone wants help. But to be honest the OP can answer his own question here - why would he need answers from this community?

It's validation, reinforcement - dude, you already know the answer. Asking us our opinion is demonstrating your lack of confidence and trying to alleviate the guilt you felt for not asking.

You said it yourself:

"I thought maybe I should've asked for her number"

then you dismiss it as if it doesn't matter to you (essentailly lying)

"I just like being social"

You know the answer - why are you in seddit if you don't close or at least attempt?

It's wrong if you decide it's wrong. If you look deep into yourself and decide that you didn't honestly want that number, then it's perfectly fine. But if you're lying to yourself and you actually did, THEN you need to make some changes.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being social for being social's sake, but it sounds like you regret not asking for her number. If that's the case, then you're not doing yourself any favors in that case. But if you approach someone and you feel like it's not going anywhere then there's nothing wrong with not pursuing any further.
