Stay in there and hang in there. I know this sounds like a cliche advice. But it is true. I remember my first lay from Gaming. It took me 3 months of going out twice a week to get my first solid number close. Then it took me another 3 months to get my first kiss. Then it took me another 8 months to get my first lay. It took me 14 months to get my first lay. And I am glad I hung in there. My perception on dating, relationship, life has all changed. I am no longer needy , if a girl rejects me i dont give a shit. I know I will get another one.
The mindset you create will be the best thing you get out of this. Not the girls or the numbers . Keep going..

Thanks for the time scale. So it looks like it will take many months to actually get anywhere with this. Of course some people get lucky.
It looks like the only thing easy about game is burning out.
I absolutely can't wait till I can stop being needy and not give a damn about what girls think of me.
[–]atcast 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yea it is a little bit of a time thing. By going out often though you can speed it up only because you'll be getting more practice AND you might be getting rejected a lot. The key to becoming needless is to realize how little a rejection means. That comes from being rejected a lot. Eventually you literally won't care. There is no "mindset" you can just switch to per se and not give a fuck. You have to understand validation isn't important, but then you also have to experience the feeling yourself. You'll get there. Just keep playing the game. Only way you lose in life is by not playing. And like /u/iamthesage said, the greatest thing you'll get out of the journey is the journey itself and seeing how you've changed.
[–]PUA-laser 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think it's important to note that caring less about rejection doesn't come just from 'desensitization' from tons of rejection, but rather the realization that rejection comes in many different forms. It's very rarely an attack on your personality and it's usually based on circumstances beyond our control.
[–]atcast 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're right. I didn't phrase it the best, but overcoming the fear of rejection has many parts to it. Good point.

The key to becoming needless is to realize how little a rejection means. That comes from being rejected a lot. Eventually you literally won't care.
That's something I'm struggling with. Would a guy who gets nothing but rejections eventually stop caring because he becomes numb to them? Or does he ever truly stop caring?
I believe the guy who gets rejected a lot and doesn't care about them, doesn't care because he also has a mix of "yes" in there as well.
For example, who isn't going to care about rejection.
Guy A: Who gets rejected by 10 girls in a night then goes home alone.
Guy B: Who gets rejected by 9 girls and the 10th makes out with him or whatever.
Obviously Guy B isn't going to care about the 9 girls that rejected him.
What I'm starting to realize is that the point of getting rejected a lot isn't to become numb to it. No, it's to increase the chance of getting that win which makes the whole process worth it. Without that win though, the guy just keeps getting broken down.
[–]atcast 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think I was very clear when I said you won't care. That's my bad and I'm glad it has been brought up. You won't care not because you become numb to it but because you realize how inconsequential it is. You understand that it has happened before and will happen again so why not just keep enjoying yourself and keep taking the shots. When you do get rejected try to take a look at why you think it went wrong and use that to improve your game next time. All these little takeaways will compound and help you each time you approach. Over time instead of seeing rejection as a threat to you personally, you'll see it as a chance to improve yourself and you won't be too bothered by rejection. It just becomes an opportunity to become a better version of yourself. That holds for everything in life, not just social interactions with women or men.

It takes months or even few years to get there. But once you are arrive you will so free.

Do you have any tips or recommendations for starting out or would say the best advice is to just go out and try?
[–]iamthesage 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Focus on one thing at a time. In the beginning all I did was open. It took me few months to just do that. Once that was taken care of, then I started going for numbers, then dates,etc..
This worked for me. It was a long process. But the journey itself is fun.
[–]420Hookup 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I'll try to do the same. Thanks.
One more question if I may ask, what were you like before all the pickup? Did you have a lot of approach anxiety? Were you more shy?
[–]iamthesage 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yes. I couldn't say hi to a girl if my life depended on it. It was painful, embarrassing. I came from an Orthodox Asian family. So I needed to unlearn a lot of bullshit. And thats why it took longer for me. My friends and wings who grew up in western culture were able to get success fast. I was patient and I hustled. I had AA each time I went out. Eventually it goes away..
[–]420Hookup 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for sharing that. Do you get a lot of success now? Would you say it's all been worth it and would you do it again? Sorry for bombarding you with questions, I just feel like I'm in a similar situation but want to know if maybe it's just a grass is always greener situation.
[–]iamthesage 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I get numbers and insta-dates. My living situation now is shitty (live with parents, so I cant take girls there). My current focus is to find girls who have their own place and take them there and bang them lol. I just closed a cougar last weekend. So yes, its possible. And the glass is definitely greener.

The first "win" is realizing that getting validation from women isn't a "win"
[–]Snazzy_Serval 10 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link
So then you are suggesting to just give up on women? Why do you post on Seddit if you have no desire to have women in your life?
[–]day-maker 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think he's trying to say that if you approve of yourself, you don't need women or anybody else to tell you how great you are. Wanting to be validated by women or anybody else is like asking for a pat on the back from mommy. You don't need this, and women will actually be repulsed by it.
How is wanting validation from women different from wanting to sleep with women?
Isn't that what sex is; the physical manifestation of a woman's validation of you?
[–]recyclablebanthas11 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Dude. Back the train up. Take a deep breath.
Sex is fornication. Two bodies coming together. Often for pleasure or baby making.
Wanting to have sex is a physical drive.
Validation is an emotional hole inside you that you try to fill in any number of ways. It's a deficiency that you can choose to address or ignore to your detriment.
No.
[–]Woujo 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I never said to give up on women. Nobody reasonable who read my comment could have interpreted it that way.
What I was saying was that you shouldn't base your happiness or your self-worth on what women think of you. Women like a lot of shitty guys and they ignore a lot of awesome guys. In fact, sometimes there is a negative correlation between how awesome you are and whether women like you. Your "wins" should come from your "mission" in life, whether it be your career, your goals, your spirituality, your hobbies, etc...
[–]Snazzy_Serval 10 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
A straight man who does poorly with women for his entire life is going to base his happiness and self-worth on what women think of him. That's just human nature. Nobody wants to be known as the "crazy uncle" who never married/never brought a woman with him to any of the family gatherings.

A straight man who does poorly with women for his entire life is going to base his happiness and self-worth on what women think of him.
That is sometimes true, but also can this man change himself into a man that is validated by himself and his real successes beside women. I was in your shoes, i am a bit older than you, but when i was 30 i had the same problem. Now i don't give a fuck about validation from women anymore, i don't need it, i know that i am awesome and women now have to prove me that they are awesome enough to be worth my precious time.
Unfortunately I'm in the place of mind that success doesn't really matter without women.
I just don't see the point in having a great job, nice car/house, friends when women won't give me the time of day.
I absolutely don't want to be single with no prospects when I'm 40. That just scream failure at life.
[–]TheXXL 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is what's holding you back. You are desperate to find a woman. They sense it, and are being repelled by that. The thing is, you don't need to be seeking out women to get them, if you are successful in life, behave like it, let your confidence and abundance mentality shine through, then being social meeting new people here and there, then you will have more women to choose than you can think of. The key to it is not to see it like a starving man, but one that knows he´ s not hungry but can have as much as he wants to and just waits for the right one to come along. This way you will radiate this calm, like a rock, attitude towards women and they get fucking wet over this.

You missed the point completely, the whole point of approach is realising you don't need to put women on a pedestal, don't let her reaction change your emotional state

Just talking to girls is a win! You probably weren't talking to girls on the regular before, but look at you now!
Keep going and you will eventually get to a kiss or a number, and then eventually a hook up.
Every step is a win. It's improving you as a person to just put yourself out there and you should be proud of that. If you only take sex as a win you're setting the bar too high. If you take the smallest victory and be proud of it you will come off as a happier, more confident person, and that's what shines through and gets you closer to a hook up.
You should be proud of yourself for just meeting girls for now.
[–]M_Knight1 10 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link
If you are just starting out, I would recommend redefining a "win" as simple being proud of yourself for taking action (approaching a woman, leaving your comfort zone, etc.) Then you will instantly start building wins. You have to learn to enjoy the process and not just feel like you are trudging through it as a means to an end.
Also I think in addition to the scarcity that is causing you to be too dependent on a single interaction's outcome, which causes you to put to much pressure on the girl as well yourself, you are also likely not communicating in a "man to woman" frame.
"There is a difference between making someone like you and generating attraction. The majority of men focus more on ensuring that a woman approves of them, rather than risking becoming vulnerable by honestly expressing themselves. Unapologetic honest expression of one’s true self is at the core of what generates attraction. Thus by playing not to lose and to protect your ego, you are inevitably destined to lose. You need to be unapologetic about who you are as a person. It is OK and normal that not everyone will like you. When first approaching a woman, your intentions should be clear from the start. These intentions should simply be: “I want to get to know you.”
Many men are ashamed and apologetic about the natural and normal attraction they have for women, and thus are not secure with their masculinity. Being sheepish or apologetic about your actions communicates to a woman that you feel that you are not good enough for her and that you are seeking her approval. However, being apologetic should not be confused with being empathetic. You should always be aware of other people’s emotions and how you are making them feel. By being unapologetic, I mean that you should have personal integrity, be self-secure and not afraid of upsetting someone as a result of being honest about your beliefs and desires. This does not mean that you should lack empathy and be oblivious and callous to how others feel. Nor does it mean that you should not apologize upon making an honest mistake."

Thanks for the encouragement.
I've been going out off and on for years. This is just the first time I've been going out a few nights a week, plus it's a new city.
You have to learn to enjoy the process and not just feel like you are trudging through it as a means to an end.
This is exactly what it feels like now. I'm no longer simply enjoying the process and seeing a conversation with a pretty girl as a win. I feel that I should be far beyond that.
Yes I am living a life of scarcity which is why I desperately need a win. I'm willing to lower my standards to facilitate something happening. For example with the two girls last night, one was a short blonde exactly my type and the other girl was Indian but still cute. I focused more on the Indian girl because she seemed to like me the most but in the end it didn't matter.
Interesting passage. I wouldn't say that I'm ashamed and apologetic about my attraction, I just don't know how to express it properly. All the PUA material I've read said to complement women on their style and their accessories and that's what I did, yet I feel that she didn't see that I was expressing interest in her. I'm not sure if I should try going more direct or not. Actually, I just realized that I've never really gone direct with girls and expressed desire or physical attraction to women I haven't slept with.
[–]M_Knight1 10 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link
Yeah the majority of PUA material out there is contradictory and is missing the underlying principles which explains why and when certain methods and techniques will be successful or applicable. Normally people become successful from PUA material, not because the material was necessarily good advice, but simply because they derived confidence from having it and believing in it, took action, and women were attracted to that confidence. This was the actual secret behind anyone who became successful from reading "The Game," myself included.
Its often not what the words you say, or the actions you take, but the intent behind them. For example, let's break down giving compliments by citing another passage from the above book:
"Do not buy drinks, give insincere compliments, or perform actions whose sole purpose is to make a woman like you. Doing any of these things is the equivalent of trying to buy a woman’s affection. It also creates a feeling of indebtedness. No one wants to feel indebted, especially to someone that they don’t know. While the transaction of material possessions is clearly apparent, we often barter on a more subtle level through the giving of verbal compliments and affirmations.
Do not simply tell a girl what you think she wants to hear. Firstly, she knows when you are doing so. And secondly, she will respect you more for having your own opinions. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing on a subject. A woman will enjoy speaking to someone who challenges her, and is not simply agreeing with her in an attempt to win her over. Let there be some natural tension from controversy, which can generate emotions and make the conversation more interesting. When a woman knows that you are only trying to say what you think she wants to hear, she will lose respect and trust in you. When you speak your mind freely to a woman, she will be attracted by your honesty. She will feel that she can trust and use what you say to accurately discover who you are as a person.
Women know that guys of actual value do not need to try hard. Showering a girl with unsolicited and undeserved compliments, favors and gifts makes it look like you are overcompensating for something else. It shows that you feel that you must provide incentives for a woman to be interested in you. This comes from a deep-seeded belief that you are not good enough as you are. A high quality man does not need to buy a woman’s attention or affection, as he knows that he himself is enough.
Reflect deep inside and ask yourself: “From where is this action derived?” Does it come from a place of true altruism and a desire to provide value? Or are you actually bartering for something in return, such as a positive emotional response? Are your words sincere, or are you just telling someone what you think will make them happy?"
-Fundamentals of Female Dynamics
[–]Snazzy_Serval 10 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link
Are you quoting that passage as contradictory advice or something to follow?
Do not simply tell a girl what you think she wants to hear. Firstly, she knows when you are doing so.
In my case I don't think she actually does. I've been going very indirect with women, basically doing what that book said and all I've done is make friends with girls. I've once had a girl who was engaged (which I didn't know at the time) seem really excited to know me, gave me her number and and then text me early the next day about how great it was to meet me. Later on did I find out she wanted to be BFFs with me. Yes I count that whole experience as a failure.
[–]M_Knight1 10 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
The point that I was trying to make was to tell you to communicate honestly with women. If you genuinely feel like giving an honest compliment to a girl, then feel free to do so. Don't just give a compliment because a book told you to do so, or because you want the girl to like you in return for the compliment. This is the identical reasoning to why you should not by a girl you just met a drink. Both of these actions come off as you bartering for attention and affection.
With the regards to the engagement girl, I would view it as a lesson to learn to screen for that type of information earlier on. Also, if you had been communicating "Man to woman" with her from the start, she would of probably told you right away. But since it was a platonic vibe, she could rationalize leading you on and continuing to get attention from you, while probably still knowing that you liked her.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't know what kind of honest compliments to give. Telling a girl that I thought her bracelets were cool wasn't enough for her to see that I was interested in her. Would straight up calling her cute have been better?
No, I'm not good at communicating "man to woman." Most of my conversations with girls distinctly feel like they are gender neutral. I think that's one of the reasons why I can make friends with girls so quickly, I just treat them like one of the guys. Of course nothing ever happens with them.
[–]M_Knight1 10 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
You can show your interest in a girl via either your words or actions or a combination of both. The key is calibration and not being needy about getting a positive outcome. Ending your conversation with: "Hey, your not only cute but also cool, so let's exchange information," clearly sets the relationship dynamic for the next time you meet. So does trying to hold the girls hand, and becoming physical. What is super important is being aware about how you are making the girl feel, and calibrating your physical escalation so that its appropriate and shes comfortable. The environment you are in also plays a role, since the girl will likely be subconscious if her friends are watching.
Here is another book quote about how going for a kiss is often actually much less a risky move, then not going for a kiss:
"Many inexperienced men believe that if they show interest, e.g. trying to kiss a girl, and the girl does not reciprocate, then it is game over. The truth is that it all depends on your reaction to her reaction. If you go for a kiss and she turns her cheek to you, and you react by being hurt or overly apologetic, then it may likely be game over. If you react instead by smiling, and continue the conversation as if nothing had happened, then your self-confidence may generate more attraction than if you had actually kissed the woman in the first place.
By being unreactive, a woman will realize that you are a man who is showing honest intent, acting unapologetically, and is secure enough with himself that his emotions are independent from her own. Women do not want the added burden of being responsible for a man’s emotions. Most women would prefer to tether themselves to a man who is well grounded and unreactive to the world around them. Women find attractive a man for whom the world reacts to him. Massive attraction is generated when you are unreactive to your environment or the congruence tests that a woman gives at you." -Fundamentals of Female Dynamics

Are you behaving like a friend or someone with a potential lover/sexual interest? If you just are having bland vanilla conversation without any sexual tension peppered in , of course these girls are gonna eventually bail. Be playful, banter, tease them, ask them legit questions but be ready to banter again. Show that you are comfortable with your sexuality and escalate when appropriate. I know right now you feel bitter and angry, but you also have to realize that ultimately these women chose to be with the other guy and not you. Its their choice as no woman obligated to reciprocate your advances. No matter how tight your game is there will always be girls that will reject you. It sounds like you should read a book called 'No More Mr. Nice Guy'.

At the end of the day if you aren't being sexual/stimulating a woman emotionally she is going to find a man that can. Flirting is really just a matter of bantering/teasing the girl. Think of how boys and girls would tease each other on the playground. Its kinda like that but a grown up version. http://theartofcharm.com/podcast-episodes/episode-6-banter-part-1/
That is a really good podcast on bantering. It will probably feel unnatural initially but over time it will become second nature. I flirt and banter now pretty much with everyone I come into contact with and it has improved the quality of my romantic and platonic relationships. The other thing it sounds like you need to watch out for is falling into analysis paralysis. You can read, watch, and listen to all the self improvement material and the world, but if you don't put it into practice it becomes junk information clogging your brain. So go out, make mistakes, improve.

First of all, stop seeing things as a WIN or a LOSE. When you don't get a "loss" the girls aren't winning. You're getting bitter because you're objectifying woman and objectifying yourself as well. In your frame a win is simply meeting somebody you're compatible with, a loss is meeting somebody who you aren't compatible with. Nothing you do is going to turn that into a win, because it's not a loss. It'll help you deal with these emotions if you drop the frame you've been using.
Like others have said be patient. It's hard, I approached at least 300 times before I got my first lay. A lot of dates and numbers but most of it was me being in my own way, which is probably the case with you. Some people day this process is exponential, but I see it as being binary. You're either doing it right or you're doing it wrong. As you gain more experience you realize the few things you need to do correctly to make things work, and things will fall in place with girls you're compatible with and you'll stop sabotaging yourself.
Damn, that's a hell of a lot of approaches to get a lay. I'm not anywhere even close to that many.
To me a win is getting a phone number, a kiss, a date etc. Something that shows I'm making progress.
I agree that you're either doing it wright, or wrong. And I'm finding out that there are many ways to fail. The trick is to keep trying new things with different people.
I really need to get my approach count up.

personally I started experiencing success when I began to focus on having fun, no matter where you go. the bottom line is, is that people (not just women) want to be around others that put them in a good mood. you'll learn in time, the most important thing is experience and patience. try reading models by Mark Manson also.
You're right that having fun is a big part of it.
Though it's really hard to keep having fun at something when you don't think you're progressing.
I've heard Models mentioned a lot around here. I'll have to get it a look.

It's obvious to me looking at your latest post, that you need to learn what NOT to say just as much as what TO say. The title alone is cringe worthy.
As far as dating, the average looking girl that contacts you is going to get you laid more than the hot one you contacted. (yeah guys I know there are exceptions to this rule, but I just want the guy to get laid, he can conquest later.)
Watch the body langue as your talking to them, right now it's not about getting laid its figuring out when you say to much, or the "wrong" thing, I'm betting you do this a lot. Most times you will get a sign immediately when you commit a faux pas. Be watch for it.
just like in forplay, start light but steady. Good luck out there brother.

What Woujo means with: "The first "win" is realizing that getting validation from women isn't a "win"" is that you have to be at the cause, not at the effect. Whatever the girl says or does it should have no effect on you.
I understand that scarcity might be driving you right now, and that's honestly what got me started in the first place. However, if you don't overcome scarcity as a motivator you will settle for a lot less than you deserve given your heightened level of self-awareness.
Know this, a male 10 isn't a hollywood grade good-looking, 6 foot guy who owns a multinational corporation and is batman on the side. A male 10 is someone that is a little bit better today than he was yesterday, someone who is constantly working on himself. Whatever ideas you might have about yourself internalize this fact, otherwise much like other people, you will get 'stuck' once you achieve a modicum of success.
As to why the girls might have had absolutely zero interest, I will venture to say the following. Stop looking at the surface layer of things, strive to:
Even if the fun level is 0, add to it. For example, what I do in elevators when a hot girl is by the buttons is to be both commanding, and add to the fun by saying: "Push 'x' for me", where 'x' is a floor that doens't exist in the building. There is always a giggle, and then I jump into convo very smoothly.
You might be tempted to think that the "techinique" is what allows for a smooth transition to more conversation, but that is wrong! It is the subtext! Subtext is the language of females!
Thanks for going into detail.
Right now I am driven by scarcity. I'd wager that the vast majority of men who are into pick up had scarcity as a motivator.
Honestly, getting simple validation from women isn't something I consider a "win." What I want is a girlfriend who is equal or better than my ex. Or in the meantime to have sexual relationships with women I'm attracted to until I find somebody that is GF material.
The issue is that those goals are very high so I have set smaller goals that lead up to it. I'm frustrated at my lack of progress in those goals. I've been stuck at the "Have a casual conversation with a cute girl" stage for too long. For example I started a conversation with a cute girl working at Target because I saw that she had a Pikachu cover on her phone sticking out of her pocket. I'm trying to figure out if there was a way I could have asked her out.
And yes, I am always working on myself with several goals at a time. Going out frequently is one goal. Another is trying to get my body fat down to 15%.
[–]TheXXL 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I've been stuck at the "Have a casual conversation with a cute girl" stage for too long.
How comes? Do the following next time you are in a conversation with a girl: Look at her, don't say a word. smile. Then... drumroll try to kiss her.
Of course this might not work for you, she might reject you or whatever, who knows... The thing is that you are not progressing because you don't make a move. I guess you are waiting for her to give you an invitation to do something, but this invitation will never come. So what do you have to lose? If you are not progressing, try a different approach, like kissing her within the first 5 minutes of knowing her. This way you will learn new things, and leave your comfort zone.
Heh, odds are this would have had a zero percent chance of succeeding with the girl who was working at Target. Though this may be something to do at night when I'm out. I may have had a good chance to kiss a girl on Friday night but I didn't see it until later.
Yeah this is something I can start doing.

I agree that it will not be successful probably most of the times, but what do you have to lose if it's not going anywhere anyways? The point of this was to make clear that taking risks can be much more successful than playing it safe, and with women it is one thing that makes them want men. Risktakers are hot as hell to women.

Last night I was getting to know a pair of girls and another guy comes up and somehow takes a girl away. I was shocked that he was able to do that and she stayed with him for a long time. I talk to her friend off and on. Eventually he comes back and then leaves taking both girls with him! A few minutes later I go outside and the three of them are taking selfies together. What the fuck?!
It's not that you were terrible. It's that this other guy was just quick acting and made an even better impression.
And also, you responded by withdrawing. Like what really stopped you from talking to this dude also? You could have stayed in but chose to leave them, basically.
You're also choosing to ignore all the good you've just outlined.

With just these vague details, it seems like it's a failure to escalate. A common issue that will be solved with repeated approaches. It sounds like you have the opening part down, but perhaps you just hang around too long. Have a goal - talk for a few minutes, get a number or isolate and keep escalating. Also, no need to be all over someone for an entire concert - people go to watch the show, not socialize so much. If you meet her early at a show, chances are neither of you are going to be leaving for several hours, so options may be limited.

Sorry man.

I know. That's why I listed my height.
Height truly affects things with women and I need to use a different approach from the normal dude. I'm just not sure what that is yet as most PUA material is for average guys.

Approach girls shorter than you.
99% of the girls I approach are shorter than me by 2-3 inches. I also wear shoes that increase my height by ~3 inches when I go out.

Okay so you just struggle like the rest of us xD
Getting quality girls is difficult, anyone that says that it's easy is probably getting dangerously low quality.

Non-sense. I know a guy that is around that height and he is never struggling for women.
Does he have an above average level of charisma and game?
Short guys with "normal" personalities generally struggle with women.

If you continue to believe that you'll have a hard time.

Tall guys with "normal" personalities also struggle with women.

This comment is the result of a weak frame. It wouldn't surprise me if this guy is easily influenced.
Don't listen to this. It matters, but not nearly as much as it is commonly pressumed.
