I am 23 years old (f) and I have my 21-year-old boyfriend, we have been through a lot and we are about to celebrate a year together, he is very good to me but currently I am wondering more and more if I should stay with him for financial reasons. He is a university student, he is studying to become an engineer but he does not work and still depends on his mother. On the other hand, I do work, before I also studied but I had to quit although I plan to return. I work and have my own salary. As you probably figured out, he is not someone who can take me to dates in restaurants or give me flowers because we spend the money that his mother sends him along with mine for food for the month.

The truth is that I know that because of his situation he can't do those things for me but I don't want to go through the situation of many women where they "build" a man and then when he is where he wants to be he leaves for another woman because they associate the previous woman with the time when they had nothing.

I have spoke with him and I basically told him that sometimes I think we would be able to grow more if we were separated and he on the one hand agreed but on the other hand he tells me that we can do it as a team. I told him that I don't want to waste my youth, that if he doesn't see formalization in this relationship that it's better that we leave it early before wasting time, but he says that he takes it seriously and that in another year he sees us formalizing. That is, getting married. I think he is very young and although he is a good guy, I take his words with a lot of doubt to be honest. I want to be more selfish and look for what is best for me, and not be one of the women who build a man only for him to end up leaving them. But what happens is that I don't know if I'm doing the right thing, I lack that push to know whether or not I should break up the relationship.
