Yes. As an Indian son, i can confirm this. My little sister gets to enjoy her life, while I'm constantly reminded, as a 19 year old, that i have to take care of my parents in their old age. They also want to take a loan for a new house, and expect me to pay it off. The amount of responsibility they are trying to put on my shoulders makes me hate them so much. I'll leave at the first chance I get. Oh, and yeah, I'm the better child, but sister is the favourite.

When I was profoundly depressed in my early 20s and mistakenly opened up to my parents about my sewersidal thoughts, they screamed in my face telling me I was making it up and then tried to beat me up.

Unfortunately at that point, I did what I had to do. When your own father grabs you from behind and tries to throw you down the stairs, you will react in some kind of way.

But my female cousin got mildly depressed over a breakup with yet another white guy, and my aunt, uncle, and parents showered her with sympathy.

I made sure to blackpill both of my parents before cutting contact with them.

But they still try asking for money through my cousin.

“Oh yeah man, you’re the first and only son so you’re privileged bro.”

My Indian friend is around 30 years old about to get married. The first questions his potential in-laws asked him were as below -

How much do you earn?
Any investments? How much gold?
Do you own your own car? Own apartment? Land?
We expect our daughter to be treated like a Queen. You must purchase a certain quota of diamonds or gold for her on every occasion. She can continue to work or stay at home. Her wish. But don't expect her to contribute financially. She should have that freedom while you must work throughout your life.

So, when do you plan to shift to the US, Canada, Europe or Australia?

Will your parents stay with you? Or you stay as a joint family? Sorry but not sorry, we can't accept that but you must understand that our daughter's salary isn't to help you out or contribute towards expenses. It's solely for her to enjoy and spend as she sees fit.
We will come to stay with you after marriage for extended duration but we wouldn't want your parents to visit and badger our daughter.
So our daughter has had romantic entanglements which is common for all girls but you musn't question her past. But we expect you to be a man and accept her with her unknown past.

I’m not Asian. Parents are of European ancestry. All the girls of my ethnicity also think my culture favors men. It’s so the opposite but they can’t see it. Very frustrating

Welcome to asian culture. We are like that for donkey centuries. The eldest son concept is a norm in families. Boys are expected to be the "head" and so are piled expectations upon expectations, be the sole provider, uphold the family name and "honor", be the problem solver, be the one who has to sacrifice in the name of family, etc. in my country, some of this tradition has died out, but the responsbilities still remains.

In some more rural parts of China, if a man screwed up, he and his entire family will be shamed. So whatever the man does, he has to carry the entire weight of the family, name and all, all the way and beyond his grave.

Oh, this isn’t a racial/ethnic thing. You’ll find a lot of favoritism towards daughters in white families as well, from both fathers and mothers. In college many of the students who were young women were driving cars they clearly could not afford on their own while the young men drove what they saved up to purchase or went without. Young men have to live with multiple roommates to afford rent while young women are subsidized by their parents so they can enjoy their privacy.

Now, did two asian countries, China and India mess up when they favored baby boys over baby girls? Yes. However, this too has ended up in their women’s favor as it tipped the inherent advantages of being a woman to stratospheric levels.

There is no place in the USA I can think of in which men can even come close to tasting what it’s like to have a woman’s sexual optionality. Some say New York City but I call BS. The insane cost of living there means the average man still won’t cut it for the average or below average woman, male-to-female ratio be damned.

If a family is poor (or ambitious), daughters are the best bet for survival of their genes. Women will usually experience no barriers to mating, and always aim up.

If a family is already rich, sons are the better bet. They can capitalise on their wealth to attract the best looking women, and the number of children possible is large. Today's sexual practices are female-driven. They always are, as they control sexual access. This was kept under wraps for a time by the moral exoskeleton of religion, and societal-imposed female 'modesty'.

Anyway, boy or girl preferred? Depends on your circumstances, the strength of 'religious' feeling, and the matrimony laws in your particular society.

Not all Asians are the same, anymore than all westerners are the same. I haven't noticed the dynamic you are talking about in the Phillipine families. It is generally the oldest and/or most successful child, gender being irrelevant.

Ubiquitous to other cultures as well. But women have an easier time conveying their emotions, thus making others feel more sympathy for their position, even if it's in reality a better one.

I will talk about but a single example that I talked about today because it coincides with stuff happening in my family atm.

Here in Balkans, the firstborn male is the one who is expected to take care of the parents, the field, the house, the animals, and everything really. But that does not make it a guarantee that he will inherit all those things that he is expected to take care of once his parents pass away. Sure, culturally the sisters are expected to give up the part they are entitled to (by law) for their brothers. But that is the case less and less nowadays, due to the "equality-fuck-yeah propaganda". It is getting to a point, where 2 women in my family are even shaming their 2 brothers for wanting a bigger part of the inheritance, cause they were the ones taking care of stuff. But god forbid that those same brothers ask for the part of the dowry. ( It is usually gold, jewellery, and precious items, that go entirely to the girls, sometimes even before the parents pass away)

This means that the male usually gets the short end of the stick. And the reason why so many men in the Balkans nowadays are being pushed into far-right, alpha-male, Andrew Tate-like spaces. Imagine being the sole provider for your parents for 20 years. Taking care of numerous field/yard work, etc. Growing the estate and inheritance. While your sister is off building a family and career of her own, working purely for her own gain, but still expecting a share of your hard-earned labour. And then, all things considered, she takes an equal or bigger part of the inheritance.

From the game theory perspective, in such a situation, it makes 0 sense for the males to continue practicing altruistic behaviour. So, instead of it being a win/win scenario (where women get a smaller but significant part of the inheritance), women want to force a win/lose scenario for themselves (where they get disproportionately more than the time and effort they invested into the family/business), the men will just go a step further and devolve it into playing selfishly as well, thus forcing everyone into a lose/lose scenario (elderly parents selling off assets to keep their current standard of living, and splitting pittance between children). A scenario which ultimately benefits the top 1%, which the feminists will then use to point out "gender wealth gap".

In India especially if a father takes on a lot of debts he would never ask his daughter to pay them even if she happens to be the first child not even her own education loan, it is always the son or sons who have to take on debts, on top these females want grand wedding, lots of jewellery to show off their wedding festivities to their girlfriends and brag.

There are so many cases where the youngest who happens to be the only son while rest are daughters working hard to pay all the debts and help his sisters get married too. These slimeball feminists have really f*cked up the narrative over the years.

I saw a documentary about sons in rural China that are worked to death on a a farm and have no chance at getting married since all the women leave for cities. These guys have been doomed to have lonely miserable lives because of their incredibly selfish parents.

Honest question: Historically, was this expectation placed on the eldest son at least a bit balanced by him inheriting the vast majority from his parents (and them actually building up an estate instead of blowing it)? Did the benefits disappear over time while still trying to impose the responsibilities?
