Look at corporal punishment rates by gender, it is the clearest example I can think of that boys are disciplined significantly more and harder than girls.

Statistics in education have shown for a while now that young girls get punished far less severely for the same offenses in school. So if anyone is getting taught from a young age that the rules don't apply to them, it's girls. From our earliest years, boys are getting set up to fail, while girls thrive in a system that generally caters to their learning style.

This saying has been twisted and used in feminist and misandrist propaganda completely wrong way. Boys will be boys never implied any excuse for doing something not good. It implied positivity to masculinity and still does for normal people. And most Reddit crowd is too young to know it to remember it.

I think the only case where I actually do hear someone use boys will be boys as opposed to bring it up as some sort of argument is “oh, yes, boys will do that kind of thing” and it is usually about something silly, about doing something that gets them dirty or stuff like that. I.E. understanding that children, in this case boys, will do age typical stuff adults would not do.

Thus I am extremely suspicious of that ever being an excuse for bad behavior. Especially not the way it will often be brought up in online discourse.

I've taught in school systems and I can tell you boys are held accountable to a higher degree than girls. When a boy is on their phone or talking too loud, it is immediately stopped. I've seen girls make dance videos in class with the same teacher that stopped the boys from even having their phone out. I've seen more physical fights between girls so far (not by far, but still a majority) and they always get less trouble. The boys who get in trouble usually show a greater amount of respect and tone themselves down. I've seen girls yell and scream at the principlaI after fighting before. Boys generally just cool off. That's one major expectation, boys cool off and makeup quickly while girls do not. This is the result of boys Amygdala maturing faster than girls. I thoroughly enjoy having both in class and LOVE both of them, but I can't deny boys are held to a higher degree in many areas.

The real difference lies in expectations on turning assignments in or completing work. Most teachers expect boys to turn in more assignments late or not work as hard BUT to get higher test scores. Boys get an average grade of a 3.0 (83%) vs girls' 3.2 (85.5%). Here, you can see my state's scores for all subjects. These same boys are getting, on average, higher state test scores in math, science, and social studies, while girls get higher in reading. That's a ratio of 3:1 for the boys. Yet, these are the same boys getting lower grade (I'm aware of bias). My point is I'm highlighting how amazing boys really are to be able to fuck around, not do assignments as much, and then come back and outshine in 3 out of 4 subjects.

Yeah, everytime a boy or man does something even remotely wrong, he is instantly judged by the society.

But when it's a girl or a woman, the same rules don't apply.

It's actually insane how much toxic and harmful behavior gets brushed off as just "girls being girls" or how little women actually get held accountable for their sexism, entitlements, unrealistic expectations, unresolved trauma, abusive behaviors or irrational behaviors. When women lash out and hit men, the first thing people ask is "what did he do to deserve it?". When women impose sexist views onto men in dating or relationships, the first response is to shame men for not living up to those expectations or telling men they aren't good enough instead of just asking "is this a rational and fair expectation?" or "would it be okay if men expected this from women?". When women push for discriminative practices, like segregated spaces, or justify this with sexism and bigotry towards men, no one asks "why is this okay?". They just assume it's normal and acceptable because it's "girls being girls". There are so many more examples of this problem that I could keep listing but the point is that it's all of it is just accepted as "girls will be girls".

And what's even crazier is that there also seems to be this recurring narrative in gynocentric/feminist circles that men can get away with murder, rape and abuse because of this "boys will be boys" attitude, and that is so far removed from reality it's pathetic. At most, the only actions that "boys will be boys" might help men get away with is horseplay, sports fanaticism and nerdiness, which are only actually problems to women who are negatively predisposed to those because they associated them with men. Western culture is actually so much more gynocentric than people realize, because it's all so normalized, and it is a problem.

The phrase is meant for tracking mud in the house, or rough housing, or becoming best friends after a fist fight. It's NOT for immoral or criminal behavior. Any use or referral to the use of that phrase for immoral or criminal actions is being disingenuous.

I once brought up the sexism in my English class and the teacher yelled at me for 15 minutes straight in front of everyone and started crying. Not the reaction I was going for at all :/ my friends who were girls in the class all noticed the favouritism when I pointed it out, and made sure I was okay afterwards. My grades quickly fell from that point on though :l

The lack of accountability with women is upsetting. It was especially true with my mom who would always rather shift the blame or avoid than actually do anything. Please don’t have 4 kids if that is your personality type. Having kids means we try things, not avoid.

It doesn't, and never did, imply that boys will be excused for bad things that they do. It implied that they will do what they do despite punishment. Boys WILL put baseball cards in the spokes of their bike wheels; they WILL fill their pockets with interesting rocks; they WILL argue with each other over how many TIE Fighters it would take to destroy the USS Enterprise. It's not about anything immoral.
