Hey everyone - hoping someone can shed some light on how to overcome being unhappy despite everything starting to go in the right direction.

I divorced from a 13 year relationship on October 2023 and went through an expensive custody battle and got my preferred outcome of 50/50 custody. Family and friends have been very supportive about the situation and I’ve been able to lean on them whenever my thoughts get to me. The biggest issue that is bothering me is adjusting to not being able to spend time with my son every day. I wanted my son to grow up in a 2 parent household with opportunities that I didn’t have growing up and I feel that’s been stripped away from him. I believe he’ll be fine and has adjusted to his new routine but I cannot say the same for me.

I recently got a promotion as a product manager and it was great for a couple of months but the excitement quickly went away when I started questioning why I needed more money when the people I loved the most weren’t part of my life anymore. I understand I still get to see my son but it feels like all the hard work that I put in the last 3 years now means nothing.

I feel like I’m not grateful for all the great things that are happening in life and it sucks. 10 years ago, 18 year old me would have loved to be where I am today except the divorce of course.

I might look happy to everyone around me but deep down inside I’m fighting bad thoughts late at night. How do I manage to overcome being unhappy? How do I appreciate life?
