Yes! But don't get it twisted. A female employee who is a major pain may get talked to nicely by a manager, but behind closed doors he wants nothing to do with her and thinks she's a lunatic. I see this a lot. But when you're not aware of what's happening behind the certain, you'd think everyone loves her dearly.

This is why if I had my own company, I wouldn't hire women. Having workers who could cause catastrophic damage to my business by choosing to take offense to an innocuous comment is a liability I would not willing to deal with.

If an employer has to shout at anyone, let alone shame them, then they aren't fit to be an employer. The only exception is an immediate emergency when other options have failed

It depends on the culture OP. Ideally everyone should be treated equally regardless of gender. However, some cultures view the treatment of men and women differently.

In my experience, every working job I had, starting out in warehouses, etc. if you were a man, it was always like, "Take this guy by the hand," sarcastically. But if you were a female, everyone, including the bosses, kissed your ass.

I would think so. I think this is one that gets turned around in feminist perspective to be the opposite way: i.e., women get treated worse, (because of course they’d see it that way). But I think in the workplace, and many places for that matter, men are conditioned to be competitive and harsh to each other while feeling they have to be gentle with women. If they try to treat women the same they get accused of sexism/misogyny. I think that’s been a big issue in the workplace for at least a century, the adjustment of all male workplace atmospheres to ones that accommodate women’s sensibilities.

Most of these issues are enumerated from a feminist viewpoint, but hardly anyone presents opposing viewpoints. Like asking how sensitive is TOO sensitive? Is there no room for reasonable criticism, competition, joking, flirting, etc.? How responsible is an employee for standing up for themselves before filing charges? Where are the lines, and are they the same for men and women?

I think, like with this issue, there are a lot of perks to being a woman, or frustrations of being a man, that people in general take for granted as “just the way things are.” I think these things add up in the psyches of men, often subconsciously, as unexpressed feelings of unfairness.

Sure it can be called sexist. Matter of fact is that your boss is probably just afraid of being attacked by the woman. No one cares about men complaining about workplace condition but once a woman points her finger on you, you have a problem.

It can happen, but, in my experience, it's kind of rare. I'm a college prof though, so my experience is probably not representative.
