The consequences of HR. Gotta hire their fellow girlies to help slay the patriarchy! I'm sure some of this is "failure to launch" type stuff, and unfortunately, men in such a position don't get the same safety nets that women intrinsically do, as they are expected to find their own way in the world and grow into a provider role if they want to have any chance of finding a mate or being respected in any way. Men can't suddenly just decide to be a stay at home father unless they really want to take a "societal beating" for a lack of a better term and possibly be the butt of the joke, even among friends. Really feel for men struggling to find work and purpose, as I've had stretches of time between jobs where I wasn't able to find anything despite sending out hundreds of applications for months on end.

When work was mining, steelmaking and heavy manufacturing, young women were well aware that male labour was essential if they wanted to raise a family.

In a service economy, 'work' is so easy that women can do it. And, women have been preferenced in both education (female specific grants) and employment (EEO, AA, ESG, DEI). Plenty of welfare as a backup plan.

So, they don't 'need' men any longer.

It's not just DEI, it's also active discrimination. Many employers, male or female, would prefer to hire women over men. Some times it's personal interest, some times it's female chauvinism, and some times it's the "women are wonderful" effect. It's also very obvious that current social conditions are quite hostile and detrimental to men/boys, which will have a negative effect on their mental health, and therefor their careers as well.

two levels of this. For sure men are being treated as less desirable than women through fucked up policies and movements, but also, men just temperamentally need less than women. The level of deprivation a man is willing to tolerate is significantly worse than his female counterpart, and as such, women are going to compromise and take jobs they don't necessarily want more than men, they are going to stick around in dead-end jobs longer, and they are going to search harder for jobs when they are unemployed. (assuming they don't find another source of income, like the state or a man). It isn't that women are harder working, it is that in general they are less comfortable in squalor because of their temperament.
