I grew up in the woods and on the farm working cows and livestock with grand dad, my dad and his brothers and their sons. We were aggressive boys and we yell and holler at each other. I played sports with teen boys, football and baseball and we lifted weights in off season. I joined the army and went to Afghanistan (with 99.9% men) not a single woman in my unit. And we cussed and yelled each other and were the best of friends. It was men that kept me safe from other men in the world that would do me harm. If anyone has ever had a problem with my words, my attitude, or volume, anyone thats wanted to reprimand me or hurt my career, slander my name or report false claims and damage my reputation, they've all had two X chromosomes. I grew up being taught one way, and now live in world where it's not ok to be one's natural self. Im told to sit down and be quiet and not complain or open up. So thats what I do. Because I want to maintain my illusion of this false reality you people call freedom.

Ironically I was hired as a "diversity hire" because my manager thought there were too many women on the team (70% female).

I'm younger than most here, thankfully the team is very chill, and I try and be the kind and happy guy to everyone so there's rarely any drama.

However I hear some rumours about female on female drama in leadership positions, and talked to an older male manager who was happy to retire, so I know it's far from sunshine and rainbows everywhere, I'm just happily insulated from it.

Well... how would we know? The only people with any real aspect of having seen both sides of the picture would be transsexuals, and even with them, I'm hesitant to say they have full experience of both.

I don’t think it’s strictly related to gender, but I have noticed that raising one’s voice has become totally forbidden in the white collar workplace. I’ve seen people lie, cheat, and steal, and they were the ones on the receiving end of the apology when their supervisor raised their voice to them.

I’m going back in my mind and thinking about all the times that supervisors, coaches, teachers, teammates and family members yelled at me throughout my life. I thought very little of it, and I believe that has a bit to do with my socialization as a male. We are told to express our emotions and feel all the feels, until that feeling is anger.

Well sort off, I’ll share something that happened with work colleges. Not too long ago, I went out with for some drinks with a female friend from work who had a bf and we had a few too many. She started touching me inappropriately, cuddling me, practically lying on top of me and talking badly about her bf. Drunk me who wasn’t thinking decided to kiss her and she kissed me back making no attempt to pull away. She ended up telling her boyfriend and eventually everyone found out. Since then I’ve been blocked by her and verbally attacked by multiple coworkers and made out as the villain and she yet she has faced no consequences. Work life is also not great as a lot of them are ignoring me. I want to reiterate that I have apologised and took accountability as I know what I did was wrong, but i feel like she should be held accountable for her part in it too.
I can’t help but wonder how different things would be if the roles were reversed and I was a woman…

Currently? No. I'm self employed and the sole person in the company. Previously? Absolutely yes. For example, I worked in the beauty retail and wholesale industry for a while. Started in retail, and it was all women. I was the only male employee. During the 3 part interview, I was asked by both female managers if I was gay, if I was bi, why a straight, masculine man would want to work in the industry, if I'd be willing to come to work in more feminine clothing and a full face of makeup, and so on. I needed money so I took the job. The training program was called "The Girlfriend In The Know" and everything was pink. Customers were primarily women, and would actively avoid me in the store because of what I have in my pants even when I was the only licensed professional in the building. I got to work closing every day because we closed at or after dark every day and I was expected to be a bodyguard to the women in the store. When my store closed, there was an opening at another store for a manager position, and even though I interviewed for it, the district manager said, and I quote, "You are more than qualified for the job, but because you have a dick you will never be promoted in this company." I went to the wholesale side shortly after.

The wholesale side was no better. If you've ever wondered how stupid hairdressers are, I assure you they're dumber than a sack of hammers. I can't tell you how many times a female hairdresser would come in and say "what hairspray do I use?" Or "I have a client wanting their hair like this picture, how should I do that?" Then come up to the counter, not have their card/id on them and get mad when I have to pick up the phone, call an automated number, input their info, and wait for it to give me the card number over the phone to type into the register. One even complained to corporate that I wouldn't keep her membership number written down under the register for her. Another woman, who I would call a cunt but she had neither the depth nor the warmth, would report me to corporate every few days then finally moved onto stalking me on Facebook, running my name down to every salon and other wholesaler within driving distance severely limiting my job prospects. She had a habit of coming in 10 minutes before close, making me stay up to an hour after, and destroying the store in the process. She never did it to the women who worked there, just me. All because she left her phone in the store bathroom, and realized it AFTER I LEFT FOR THE DAY and couldn't go back in due to the alarm system setup. I was at Chipotle eating dinner and she came up to me screaming and knocked my drink off the table into the floor. I'd have been fired if I went back in, and I told her there was nothing I could do until the next day at 7 am. She came back and I got screamed at by not only the district manager, but the regional manager as well for not helping the customer.

When I worked for a large western wear company, the manager who was a woman would purposely trash sections men were assigned to see if we were actually working and caught what she did. She did it every damn week but would never touch a section a woman was assigned. Men were never in keyholder or higher positions, and men closed every night because we were open after dark and "women's safety" in the shopping center. She'd also steal men's sales and put them under her or other women's numbers.

I'll be fucked in the armpit by a rabid bald eagle before I ever work for a woman or in a woman dominated industry again.

I don't think it really affects it at all. It's just neutral. My work is about 70% men. My boss is a woman and she's great, I'm a boss to s team of 5.

Gender isn't something I think about much with regards to work.

I don't treat my team members any differently based on gender.

I work with a team of almost 80% women, some on the older side. It doesn't affect my work or my behaviour but it does mean i sometimes have to tolerate sexist comments, mainly and almost exclusively from the older women there. In general is a good team though and I like it there

I once, briefly, worked in an almost completely female environment. It was pretty sexist. I was sexually harassed twice.

Yes, of course!

Harder, easier, different ... really quite the mixed bag. Lots of differences, probably many I never even notice - notably always being a/the man in such personal experiences, and some harder, sure, some easier, also sure. Better and/or worse or harder and/or easier overall? Who can say. Probably also varies a lot by the particular work environment - some are probably easier and/or better for men, others harder and/or worse. So, it's also certainly not uniform out there.

Imma be honest, I’m terrified of offending or coming off as creepy to my female colleagues since in college I got raked through the coals with a girl who falsely accused me of touching her and stalking her. Never officially got in trouble but I was basically told if the girl reported me again I’d face consequences of some kind (title 9, expulsion(?), etc.). This really fucked my already small amount of confidence with women so basically I keep to myself and try to just smile, nod, and keep my mouth shut. I should probably be in therapy but can’t afford it and don’t see the point in it, kinda used to the fact that at 24 I’ll probably be better off alone.

Depends on your coworkers and work culture. If the majority of your colleagues are women, or if your culture is heavily bought into DEI, then yes.
